I sent my MT 500 jacket to be reproofed by Grangers last year.
A 10 minute walk back from the beach in a deluge resulted in this..

I’ve been looking for a new jacket and someone replied on a Endura Singletrack review that their’s leaked like a sieve even though they had reproofed with Grangers and followed the correct procedures.
Is there some sort of rubbish Endura / Grangers interface?
It’s only the thin bits of material that have leaked on my jacket.
Are all reproofing liquids the same, resulting in the same result or can I try a different formula?

I don’t think they work, well, they do to an extent but only to ‘reproof’ the surface ability to bead water and in my experience not for long. If water is getting inside (and it’s not sweat) then that suggests a breakdown of the membrane or inside coating, or seam tapes, which is going to be subject to warranty etc. if it’s covered

Seam tapes are perfect. Te water appears to have run off the proofed bits to the non and gone straight through.

Is the mt500 fully waterproof? Or does it have waterproof panels? If the latter then yeah not surprised as the water will just run into the non waterproof bits.
If it is meant to be fully waterproof then the jackets membrane has died

I just reproofed my bike buffalo shirt with TX direct spray on.

Did it work ?,did it restore the beading effect. NOPE, f**** rain shower just soaked straight through.

Just as well with the buffalo lining it doesnt really matter if its wet or not, still provides warmth, but still would be nice to be at least shower proof again

Glad you posted this,. I did my Nukeproof blackline jackets with a random one from Mrs Weeksy, absolutely useless… just pointless. I have got a Nikwax TX/DX thing to try next, but currently, useless.

Just had a look on the website and it looks like a ‘hardshell’ jacket so all the fabric should be waterproof.. what do you mean by ‘non proofed bits’?  the point of reproofing is just to stop the face fabric ‘wetting out’ so moisture from the inside can get out. It won’t keep water out of a membrane that’s had it

I used NikWax on my North Face jacket and had the same results. Quite annoying

The new, more environmentally friendly, re-proofers just seem really poor for both performance and durability.

It makes me wonder what change is needed – perhaps the odd Columbia ‘OutDry’ fabric was onto something.

I have also given up trying to keep jackets as long as I did – a couple of years is good it seems, even for branded membranes.

I picked up a new Berghaus Paclite jacket this week for £100 – and I am not sure it is worth spending more these days…

Do you have a link Mr Outand about?
The dark orange panels are the bits that are thin and leak.

Got ya. I was thinking more like breathability panels that weren’t intended to be waterproof. In this case it looks like dark orange is ‘thinner’ where light orange is intended to be a bit thicker to stop rucksack strap wear… should all be waterproof regardless of what the surface DWR is doing

Bought some Endura reproofer. Followed the instructions ,still leaks.
Shame ,as I really liked the excellent ventilation on it.

A others have said, reproofing should be to help the hydrophobic coating so the fabric doesn’t wet out. Seems like your coat just isn’t waterproof and no amount of treatment is going to change that.

when goretex / breathable clothing membranes were invented they used PFC’s to act as the DWR coating to stop the outer fabric wetting out. These work really well but are persistent chemicals in the environment.

The non PFC equivalents are a bit rubbish and hardly work/don’t last for long when they do.

Some **** still sells PFC based reproofers on eBay but you are better off buying Buffalo / pertex & pile jackets instead.
