So I had a little look around this morning at the BBC etc, even clicked the rarely visited News tab on STW.  Didn’t see any obvious silly headlines apart from one about carpet covered pedals that the Chrome landing page offered to me!

So what hilarious froth inducing stories have I missed?

Not seen a thing anywhere. Is everyone too scared to offend or is real news too oddball for it even to register

Just watched an Intend video why they said their fork now comes with stanchion guards.

I thought it was cruel rather than funny.

I’ve not witnessed it from source, but I just heard on the radio that Aldi are launching a new low-cost airline…Hmmmm  🙂

Fat Lad at the Back are launching bib shorts for men with 3 levels of “enhancement” – the strapline was “They’re the bollocks!”

Newsthump suggested that as an April Fools joke the Daily Mail had published actual news.

Local farm shop has developed a left handed hot dog bun

Derby Mountain Rescue are working to develop a network of tunnels across the county to enable them and the other local teams to get to callouts quicker

Nottingham Trams photoshopped a tram onto an Alton Towers rollercoaster saying it was the latest bit of trackworks, available for today only.

Many replies in the comment suggesting it’d be a better joke to say that all the trams were running with no delays.

Jeremy Vine posted a video allegedly of his cycle-following drone being taken out by an eagle in Hyde Park and lots of people fell for that. All sorts of replies along the lines of:
Serves you right, you can’t fly drones in Hyde Park, bloody cyclists, poor eagle, what if the drone crashed onto a person… And then tagging in Met Police and RSPB into the replies demanding that they investigate Jeremy Vine for the illegal use of a drone and cruelty to birds.

I got an email this morning saying that Mt Ventoux has had all its tarmac taken up and was gravel-only on all routes

Hahaha! I was about to post ‘April 1st, the only day of the year that people crittically evaluate things they find on the internet before accepting them as true’.

But that would be incorrect, it seems!

this one got folks going…. ”

I was out on my bike yesterday & lately I’ve been thinking I’d prefer a long travel lightweight e-mtb as I ride a lot of natural enduro type trails.
To save some weight before I’d consider changing has anyone here in the UK tried just charging their battery to 50 or 60%”

That has restored my faith in April fools.  Too many marketing departments thinking they are amusing but that one was skillfully done and hooked so many

    carpet covered pedals

They were in the news yesterday so probably a real thing (aimed at barefoot surfers who want to ride along the prom etc)

Ribble has unveiled the HoloRider for those who feel lonely riding on their own, with the company saying: “Feel the presence of a cycling partner right beside you, making those long, lonely rides a thing of the past. Our state-of-the-art hologram technology projects a lifelike cyclist that keeps pace with you, motivating you to push your limits or simply enjoy the company. The hologram is highly visible in both day and night conditions, making sure you’re more visible than ever before on the road. The hologram is also positioned on the traffic-facing side of the rider, helping to make sure that drivers pass at a safe distance.”

this takes arm pump to a whole new level! The Gusset Isobar grip system allows you to set your grips to be as hard or soft as possible! Using just a Presta valve and a shock pump you can adjust the pressure you run in your grips to suit your riding style (to a max pressure of 30 psi).

That Focus: “strike the perfect balance between rigidity and unforeseen steering precision.” Sounds about right.

My favourite was around 1980, when BBC Radio Nottingham interviewed a very excited local astronomer who had discovered a new moon orbiting Uranus called boomholy.

I’m 99% certain that was a Two Ronnies sketch. It was the punchline following a monologue about Uranus being known as urr-a-nus rather than you-rain-us because of giggling schoolboys.  I remember seeing the ‘correct’ spelling on the screen behind Ronnie Barker.

The firefighting jet skis actually seems like a good idea. Relatively cheap and very quick to respond. Doubt they’d need 200 though!

I’d try to post a better link but hey; maybe one day the forum will let me.
