What bike? What’s you reasoning? How is it working out?

Yep – stuck a pair on my Evil Sovereign and Mojo HD. Pretty much as you’d expect – a half-way house between 26″ and 29er in terms of the trade-off between chuckability and grip / steamroller effect. Actually, probably fairer to say a 1/3rd way house as is closer to 26″ in feel than 29er.
Whether or not you think this compromise is a good or a bad thing is probably down to personal taste – some will prefer to run a 26″ and a 29er, others may just want one bike and for them a 650B may well be the ideal wheelsize.

Did they change the HD much?

Not quite yet however a project is in process, which will be interesting and very custom 😉

Yup, and I bloody love it!

Seems faster than 26″ and I am jumping much better!

Bit more grip and flowed over roots a bit better. Didn’t notice the marginal increase in BB height. Bike still felt v nimble. Using 2.35″ Hans Damphs (which come up big) there wasn’t much clearance around the BB but didn’t have any probs with interference on the seat tube at max travel.
Note you can only run the HD in 140 mode with 650B wheels unless you shim the shock to limit travel.
At the margin prob preferred it to 26″ mode in terms of grip etc, but was more of an experiment than something permanent, as the 26″ wheels are much better quality than the 650B wheels, and so are both lighter and stiffer, which outweighs any benefits of the 650B wheels.

A friend of mine has them on his C456 and loves them. They look right on that bike too. He bombs on them.

Personally I’m a 29er convert however if the choice was only between 26 and 650b, I’d choose 650b every day. (Which is no surprise given that I buy into the advantages of big wheels).

Another friend has them on his Mojo but I’ve not heard a report back yet.

My wife likes this wheel size. She tried 29er and did not get on with it. She is now using Hans Dampf tyres.

Been riding 650b in my ti Ala carte for over a year now. Excellent really, feels slightly tall as the BB is 1/2″ higher but everything else is great. There’s even a choice of (two) tyres from Schwalbe now.

I put some on my BFe, whilst I appreciate that little bit extra roll you get which is great for covering distances, it doesn’t seem as much fun in the trickier stuff, but if cotic ever do a BFe for 650b so the BB is at the right height I’d be keen to try that back to back so to speak. Wish I still had my evil sovereign, a set of custom drop outs and it’d be sweet.

OK so who else makes tyres and can you get away with 26″ inner tubes?
Oh and what is the total diameter with an average 2.25 tyre?
Looks for tape measure, sees start of another cunning plan!
Seriously I was looking for new wheels for the Soul so will 650b fit and will they make any, hopefully , positive difference?

    26″ tubes fit.

Schwalbe make the Ralph, Ron and Hans Dampf in 650b, although the HD is a 2.35 and so you need to check fork clearance.

I don’t see why not. I run 26″ tubes in my 29er without issue.

You buggers 😉 Ok I’ll spill the beans:

It’s that “factory raw” Tracer 275 in you-know-who’s shop that has turned my head. Not that I like raw but something about the machine screamed: “take me home and thrash me”. I’ve ridden in the car park today and it fits well. 4k for a suitable build: Gulp.

The advice from Box, whose saving for one as his main trail bike, is: 29 is best for racing ( he should know), but this will replace 26″ for fun trail bikes.

I know you boys like Candy Apple Green but I also like Candy Red Factory and Candy Tangerine Orange although its an 8 week wait for custom colours. Time enough to organise a bank job to pay for it.

Orsum! Who are we going to hit? We can be like Robert di nero’s team in ‘Heat’.

Hopefully without the unfortunate end to them all. 😯

I got a ruler out and measured my (2007-2008) Soul a while back (idle curiosity after checking out that 650b conversion site), and decided that it was not feasible. Maybe a small Racing Ralph might just fit in. Maybe. but there’d be millimetres of clearance.
Only difference I could see is that it’d be like riding the fattest of 2.5in tyres that are only 1.95in.
