For me the xtr 960 cranks were cut down to run single ring with a really cheap light crank set. I cut them at work 1 lunch break then polished them on the wheel the following day. didnt cost owt. Just liked how they looked when done.

Yeah, blame Jeff for starting the M960 cutting and polishing trend.

If you look at the pic I posted earlier in the thread, I took a set of XTR cranks that were very tired and worn (in fact taken out of the bin at my LBS!) and with pretty minimal effort got a nice set of SS cranks out of it.

Just dig them out in fact, they could do with a repolish. Still look 8) though.
