  • Anyone like a little drum and bass?

A mate pointed this Mistabishi mix on youtube out to me earlier and it is pretty damn large. OK so I am mid 30s with a child, a sensible car and never actually go out anymore but it woke the old raver in for me for half an hour or so 😀

Nowt wrong with a bit of drum and base! Im 35 have 3 kids, and usually have dubstep or d’n’b blasting out the car radio. Kids are near deaf though! 😕

Love a bit of D&B, have not been able to find anyone to rival High contrast for a long time though.

Had a skip through & thought it was pretty bad

I love a bit of good D&B but sadly there’s a lot of crap out there.

This is a decent source for old-timers:

I loves it! I agree with Rob that there’s a fair amount of crap about but I don’t include Mistabishi in that.

If you like the old stuff then check out:

Am 38 with two kids and dnb is still pretty much I listen to. Was there at the beginning and love it as much now as 20 years ago. Don’t get to too many club nights though, though if I get to glasto in two years time I’ll probably spend 70% of my time in the dnb tent.

I’ve downloaded all of them Mister P! I’m too young to remember the tracks when they actually came out but that doesn’t stop them still being ace!

The internet is great, so many awesome tunes from my youth that I would never have heard again if it wasn’t for the web.

I still have all my old vinyl from this era in the attic. Keep wondering what to do with it as I don’t have anything to play it on.

The great thing about You Tube is you can find all the tunes you used to listen to/had/recorded off a mate on cassette/heard somewhere, but never knew the names of them or who they were by!
Which lets face it there were loads!

I loved this tune for years, but never knew what it was till last month. Then i rediscovered it, pulled it off the net in its complete form (i only ever had three quarters of it) and stuck it on my I Pod.

Sounds great waazzing through my local woods on my Santa Cruz!

Love DnB. My playlist currently features a lot of mixes by a DJ who calls himself Halfpint.

Also a big fan of anything from Hospital Records.

I think I’ll have to bring the record box down, make a list and look some up sometime I in the mood for reminiscing. I wonder if they would still be worth anything?

I have that on tape somewhere.

My mate went to that rave (he had a job and went to loads more raves than I did).. he came back bubbling and gushing about how ace sasha’s set was.. mindblowing.. groundbreaking.. life-changing blah blah blah.. we heard the same sort of stuff from all of our mates about whatever DJ playing whatever set every weekend so we took it with a pinch of salt..

That same mate went to the next Universe rave and came straight from there round to our place afterwards..

when we asked him how it was he told us to shut up and never mind about all that.. he had bought a CD of the Sasha@Newport set and we should listen immediately..

he distributed ecstacy.. pressed play on the CD player and we were indeed blown away.. we spent the next 24 hours or so making copies onto tapes for everyone we knew.. copies of those tapes were all that you heard in any ‘safe’ house in the whole town for the next 6 months..
    good times

Wasn’t mistabishi the one that got caught playing premixed CD’s whilst pretending to mix on a mixer that wasn’t plugged in?!

I think that he was doing this. To be fair he never originally claimed to be able to mix, just to be a producer. I remember a hospital records night where his mixing was pretty shonky…think he’s got good now though!

At the end of the day if a DJ is playing ace tunes and making the dancefloor erupt then I couldn’t care less if he’s actually mixing live so long as the mixing is good anyway!

The Hospital Records podcast is well worth a listen for anyone that’s in to D&B.

New episodes come out every week or two and it’s normally got loads of great tunes here:
