- Anyone know about damaged hands / knuckles?
I just got crashed into off a jump whilst skiing – didnt really hit the guy – went down on my back and i think i slapped the top of my hand on my ski as i was falling / sliding… felt sick for a bit now had a few pills and it just feels swollen and achey and i cant grip anything but seem to be able to move my fingers ok. -it all looks ok…
any thoughts on what I did?Posted 5 years agoDT78Member
I have mashed my hands several times due to martial arts, I have a knuckle about a cm back from where it should be.
Every trip to A&E resulted in a 5 – 7 hour wait to be told I had broken my hand (thanks for that…) and then it is splinted.
May as well splint it yourself and save yourself the bother. Use a lolly stick or even a cut down biro, some cotton wool and surgical tape (duct tape works well too…)
Unless the digit is pointing in the wrong direction there is little they will do.
Of course I am not a medical professional and in no way should you listen to my ramblings.Posted 5 years agothepuristSubscriber
Broke my 5th metacarpal almost exactly a year ago but also damaged knuckle of my 4th finger. The break was fine but the sprain has been a pita. 2 months before I could bend that finger, loads of physio and exercises, and even now I still can’t make a fist and have limited grip. But the specialist said there’s not much that could’ve been done to make it heal any quicker so unless its causing major grief you might as well just splint it up and hope for the best…
Edit – I could move everything fine after the crash and they just taped my 4th and 5th fingers together, it was only a few days later that I realised the 4th finger wasn’t bending. Never had any real pain but it swelled up a treat.Posted 5 years agoNorthwindSubscriber
Absolutely everyone told me, when I broke my hand, that if I could move it it wasn’t broken. Very helpful.
Mine ended up healing badly, knuckle crushed back but also rolled a little, they’d have reset it but by the time I went in, it’d started to heal in the wrong place.
So definately worth getting checked out- if only for better painkillers and being able to tell people it’s definately broken.Posted 5 years ago
