As above, looking at getting an armchair I have inherited re-upholstered with a darker , more hardwearing material- its currently blood red velour!
Any ideas of how much something like this should cost? Any tips? Cheers.

Was 600 for a full corner sofa from a polish fella.

    This was 5 years ago.

    Whereabouts are you?
I have a colleague that does it beautifully in Warwickshire.
She teaches too so you could even do it yourself with expert guidance.

Depends on the amount of material. We’ve had wooden chairs with a padded base done. They were £100 each but were Harris tweed. Had a tub chair done and that was £350 as it was more material. This was a 3-5 years ago so expect more now.

Really happy with both and well worth the money. All were grandparents chairs which have a new life.

Depends on the complexity of the job and materials cost. Best best is to search out a few local upholsterers and ask for examples of similar work. Then ask them for a rough idea of cost + materials separate in a quote.

No idea on cost. My wife has just done this at an evening course at the local college. She did a good job too. If you are in anyway handy it might be worth seeing if anywhere local does classes and do it yourself.

We had ours done by Secret Messages, a home interiors shop in Buckingham, if you’re in the Home Counties. Run by Rob and Chris, two great guys.

The fabric amount you need will be more than you think.
A good upholstery fabric will be from £30 – £100 per metre.
The work involved will take days and days.
    Budget around £600 -£700
Anything less will be a Brucie bonus.

Had a wing back armchair done 2 months ago was £250 for a tweed type material. More expensive fabric would have been nearer £400

That seems very good. I did upholstery as part of my furniture training and it’s a very labour intensive process.
    Traditional upholstery is at least.
I wouldn’t have thought the material affects the price too much unless there is a huge difference per metre, as it’s the labour which stays similar.
Pattern matching etc changes that obvs.

No idea of cost, but my sister in law does stuff near York. She seems to do some amazing fabrics.

    What’s your location, please?

Warwickshire has a coworker who is excellent at this.

It’s possible to learn how to do it yourself with the help of a professional.

Reported. Although kitten-skin upholstery could catch on.
