yo, anyone round the london way got a thule roof bike carrier to fit on aero bars that they fancy lending me over easter? i’ve got one but turns out i have to take both my bikes to wales so my mate can borrow one, don’t have the capacity for both. suppose i could buy another, but seems a bit excessive if anyone fancies being a legend and lending me one?

    yours hopefully, tfb. xx

so if i, on behalf of the generous-sounding s&j, called thule and asked them, they’d hook me up and i could then pass them on to s&j afterwards? if so, that would be fantastic…

Not at all what you’re after flatboy, but I’ve got a Halfords bike rack (straps onto rear of car) that I want to get rid of so if anyone in London wants it get in touch. I don’t want to post so you’ll have to pick up from Clapham.

right, i’m going to give you lot one (or ten) more chance(s). any last ditch volunteers to lend or, in fact, sell me a thule aero compatible roof carrier within the next week who lives in london?

    come on people!

If you’ve got roof bars, you do not need carriers.
Drop the seats as low as possible. Invert the bikes, and use bungies to strap the bike handlebars and seats to the roof bars. 4 per bike. Wrap a bungy several times round the grips and bars, use 2 around the seat. I’ve carried 4 bikes across Europe like this, no problems.

moses, i like your work. first the red sea and now this!

i’ll give that a check over the weekend, but sounds very promising. 🙂

2nd moses, lidl, got tie down straps in at the moment though and would be better than bungees… Tie them on in an A shape, they wont budge.

where sells tie down straps? failing that, i’ll go for the moses-bungee method…

    Halfords? Poundsaver?

But I don’t understand the A-shape comment. You need to bungy or strap the handlebar grips direct to one of the roof bars, really tightly. The seat will rest somewhere on the other bar, and strap that hard down, too. If you try to rock the bike when it’s tied down properly, it shouldn’t budge.

yeah nice one – thanks mate, i get what you mean. i’ll go for the bungees and employ the “strength of a bear” power to get them nice and tight. thanks for reply.
