I’ve either had 2, or symptoms subsided before different symptoms came about. 3 weeks ago I started feeling really fatigued, temp went up and whole body ached really badly. I work in a physical job and I just wasn’t capable of doing it so I went home on the Monday lunchtime. The symptoms got worse through the week, felt like flu rather than a cold, but with no runny/blocked nose or breathing difficulties. Ended up taking that whole week off work.

Went back in the following Monday (2 weeks ago). Still not feeling great but capable of work. Haven’t felt quite right since. Then on Friday just gone I started getting a sore throat and a headache, followed by the dreaded snots. Temp went up that evening and been feeling lousy all weekend. Still fatigued and achy with a temp, cold sweats and over the weekend I developed a really bad cough as well. Been doing lateral flow tests every 2 days for the whole period and all negative. Tempted to see if I can book a PCR, just in case

Yes. Fully vaxed and had my annual flu shot a few weeks ago (Asthmatic) 2 weeks ago today started to feel flu symptoms. Got steadily worse and after a week felt really awful. Felt better then worse again. As of Friday started to really pick up and gradually much better. Not fully recovered but will get out for a short jog later and try to pick up my training again this week. Just felt like Flu (which I have only had once before many years ago) exhausted, aching, listless and quite bad headaches. Unfortunately I think my daughter has got it now. 🙁

Mu daughter had a nasty cough mid September, of course we gave regular lateral flow tests. I know they aren’t super accurate but we have done quite a few on her and the rest of the family. My other daughter had a cold for about 36 hours and recovered to her usual levels of idleness and lethargy. I have been run down, mentally fogged and fairly weak for a while. Tried dig out the new lawn on Saturday, managed about an hour before retiring exhausted, I was struggling to swing a pick safely. Did better yesterday but not brilliantly. My Zwift power has been way down but that could just be loosing form over the summer.

Yep, got it around the start of September and the symptoms lasted at least 4 weeks, had a PCR at the height of the symptoms which was negative. Work has been awful over the last few months so stress has probably been a factor, but I’m still not even close to 100%. The coughing and sniffling has mostly gone, but I’m still knackered. Possibly I’ve had multiple colds over that period though.

To follow up on previous points, if you have symptoms, you need to be doing a PCR test – a LFT won’t be much use. Lots of people don’t seem to be aware of this still.

grum – however the gov advice is still only get a pcr test for symptoms if they are a cough, temperature of loss of taste/smell. Many folk on here have sinus issues, aches, fatigue, snots. I.e. standard heavy cold stuff.
Better guidance needed instead of relying on folk to get judgement right?

I’d be down there twice a week if I went for any of the listed symptoms, the list is that long.

Yup but then if you look at what are actually the most common symptoms for vaccinated people those are way down the list. The advice needs updating IMO.

As usual the ZOE Covid Study seems to have better info

Well yup that’s what makes it so tricky. We have young kids in school and combined with spending 18 months mostly not mixing at all we are pretty much constantly ill at the mo to varying degrees.

    Headache is the top symptom?

It’s been common knowledge that symptoms were often different for Covid positive individuals since Delta arrived around April and the population began to get double vaccinated. Many were asking why the PCR criteria weren’t changed back then and it’s still the case now.

    https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/get-tested-for-coronavirus/

I don’t have a continuous cough, hot torso to the touch or a change in my taste/smell.

Like a number of other posters, I have physical and mental fatigue; aching limb muscles and joints; aching shoulder muscles; continually running nose has gone but sinus still swollen; sore throat feeling replaced with feeling of layers of gunk over throat/tonsils; on/off headaches.

I did a third LFT last night, on day 8 since the scratchy throat started the symptoms, again negative.

I can’t remember the last time I had time off work for a cold that went beyond seven days, the short walks I started doing on Friday would typically be a short gentle ride, where I’d feel I could return but take things steady… But not this one.

The fatigue, muscle ache and joint ache reminds me of what I went through after both OxAZ jabs earlier this year, albeit the first jab hit me much harder (touch and go whether to attend A&E). Ironically, I felt less unwell when I had Covid at the start of the pandemic, but then suffered cronic fatigue when I tried to resume threshold+ training a week or so later.

8th week in, with mild cough, a bit cheezy.
Was more ill at weeks 2-4, but now just cough and such.

-ve PCRs, so just a ruddy annoying cold…

Yep had it for 10 days now, feeling exhausted (-ve PCR test at height of symptoms last week) was feeling a little better on Saturday so rode the national champs sportive (plus ride to the start and back home again) I’m dead today, completely in a box, really hope to feel better by the weekend as we’re heading away to the Lakes for our first holiday of the year (missed our first two planned ones due to Lockdown and me being in hospital for the second)

FBG is off school with it at the moment. Looks as white as a sheet and is as steady on his legs as a new born gazelle. Properly nasty – hope I avoid it.

He has had LFT’s and a PCR – all -ve but will test again in case…

Yep – this is 2nd time around for me now. Myself, Wife and daughter it about 4weeks ago – daughter still has the coughing. I’ve got it again this week.

Again all of us have had multiple negative pcrs and lat flows through out.

I hadn’t caught anything over the last 18months, even though I work in a public space. I was expecting to get lots of germs this winter.

I can’t get the western medicine I would take for colds and flu in China. No Lemsips unfortunately.

Blocked/runny nose, bit of a sore throat (but over that now) pains all over (sometimes shooting pains) feeling cold, sneezing a lot, and waking with chesty issues.

I was offered this locally at the pharmacy and it’s working well to reduce most symptoms) hopefully you can make sense of the translation) :

Didn’t know if safe to take pure paracetamol with it for the pains (it wasn’t working for the other symptoms, and homeopathy here is 50 of prescriptions) so just complementing with whisky (when home from work and not anticipating driving)

NOTE: no covid in my region, so no confusing symptoms for syndromes.

I’ve got the achey bones variety with occasional shooting pains. Bit headachey.

Currently in bed and staying here! -ve LFT yesterday no chance I’ll be venturing out into the cold for a PCR test for a few days.

I have had plenty of acupuncture for colds in the past. My traditional Chinese doctor friend would treat my face like a pincushion.

You need to unblock that chi mate!

Did it cure me of colds? No of course not, but having acupuncture can be deeply relaxing, especially when combined with relaxation/breathing exercises.

And popping down to Boots for some Lemsip isn’t going to cure your cold either.

Will probably regret typing this but the last 18 months have been just about totally illness free. Can’t recall ever going so long without a cold, a cough or anything else like that. Combination of not much socialising, wearing a mask and hand sanitizer I guess.

Very little positive progression in getting over this since my last post on Monday, some days I feel more bunged up than others, I have the odd sneeze or cough and or have the odd headache. But the mental tiredness, sleeping in late, the aching muscles and joints and physical tiredness while simply sitting around is pretty much constant along with bunged up in nose/throat.

I finally got around to doing a bit on the turbo daily since Thursday and I’m severely power limited, session of under 40mins (roughly how long it took me to climb Road To Hell on 9th Oct) are a challenge to do at ~40% of the power and leave my legs and knees moaning more.

Other family members have done their own LF tests since and all negative.

Sounds like my mum and sister who caught it off me first feel like they have turned the corner, but in fairness, neither of them are currently physically active (~14 month Collie pulls badly on the lead, various anxiety issues and been told by dog behaviour trainer to keep him at home and back garden for now).

My better half who caught it on my return from Wales isn’t quite sure where she is at with it, because she has been struggling with Long Covid and has been off work for ~10 months now. Throughout having this “super cold,” none of the breathing issues she had with Covid have been present, making me believe the negative LF tests a little more.

Me and OH are still bunged up, sniffly and coughy. I’m around two weeks in and OH is about a week behind me :/ It’s just massively shit.

Just getting over this, the Mrs was a week ahead of me so I saw exactly what was coming. Tried hard to avoid her and her grotty illness after not being ill for most of the pandemic, finally got me and I was in bed for 2 days, white as a sheet, 39c fever no energy at all. 2 pcr tests came back -ve as did hers, the kids all have coughs still and so do we. Now we’re worried about her parents getting it as we’re living with them pre-house purchase. They’ve both just had their flu jabs and boosters so hopefully they’re good as gold.

Lingering here too. 2 wks in. Was meant to do the Gorrick XC today but decide that a 90 flat out blast wasn’t going to a smart move. Went for a bit of Z3 instead – power & breathing ok but still feeling a bit meh. Looks like another easy wk ahead..

I caught this this week, started at the weekend. No sleep at all on wed night and still feel like crap this weekend.
Not if cause or effect, a minor incident at work has totally wound me up and affected mood for a good few days now.

Really hoping it doesn’t linger about as was just starting to get some fitness back.

    Boring reply but –
Lateral flow tests are for asymptomatic people
PCR is the test for people showing symptoms”

    What madeupname said!

I don’t think everyone in the UK completely gets this yet. Probably could have been a better education thing on it.

2 Parents at our school: “Our kid had covid symptoms, but lat tested fine, and me & wife lat tested fine too, so wasn’t covid”. Not a surprise it’s getting round the schools a bit!

I’m not sure that this ‘super cold’ that everyone is going on about is anything new, it’s just the attention being paid to Covid is drawing attention to something that’s been around for ages. I had what started as a cold around ten-twelve years ago, and it lasted around three months! Started about Christmas, and I didn’t really feel ok until March. It was utter misery, with a cough that wouldn’t go away, and sinuses clogged with green goo, I was using a loo roll a day just blowing my nose, trying to keep my head clear, then it settled onto my chest, so I was coughing up stuff as well. Nothing I tried really alleviated it. And a bit before that I had something similar, which may have been flu, but because of staff shortages I had to go to work – I was wrapping myself in bath towels in bed, because I felt cold and shivery, but I was sweating so much my bedding was wet through by the morning.
Never had anything like it since. But then, the common cold is a coronavirus, one of six that affect humans, in fact four are varieties of the common cold, so not surprising really that every so often one will mutate into a particularly nasty variety.
The other two are MERS and SARS.
    The flu isn’t a coronavirus.

Just come down with mild flu symptoms. Started burning up Saturday night, uncontrollable shivers. Felt rough (no sleep) Sunday but OK if achy. Sunday night, temperature, hot and cold. Monday is WFH felt rough first thing. Evening and I’m achy again and tired. In bed now. Think I’ll WFH all week as it’s generally recommended if not 100%. Fortunately only one face to face and thats Thursday. Gives me Weds to decide. I’d normally be riding in.

Yes!! The sprog got it from some other sprog, was off school for 2 days; then passed it to the OH and me, and it’s rank. Haven’t had a cold this bad for quite a while
….but then I didn’t get a cold at all last year, which apparently is a large part of the problem!

MrsIHN has been on and off poorly, varying through anywhere from mildly lethargic to massively snotty to bed-ridden, for about three months now. She swear it’s since her second Covid jab, maybe the Microsoft 5G chip has got stuck somewhere it shouldn’t have.

A little victory in the battle against this bug yesterday, it was split up into four little turbo rides, but I managed to do over an hour of riding for the first time since 10th Oct… And ~75% of my pre-bug FTP felt more like z4, instead of z7!

Just getting over mine. Felt groggy for two weeks then Saturday – Wednesday last week was non-stop coughing, could’ve done a great brown/green Jackson Pollock with all of the phlegm and mucus. Cough was so tiresome that I got awful headaches. Was so bored of moping around the house that I ran a 5k last Monday. Felt OK-ish on the run. Got home and had to stay in bed for the rest of the day and much of the next.

I’ve had to work from home for the majority of the lockdowns and agree that limited interactions with people have definitely made a difference in tolerance to infections.

So frustrating, after a couple of days feeling like I was finally improving on Monday and Tuesday, didn’t feel so good yesterday and today I’m back to feeling like death warmed up. The very slim blessing is this relapse has happened before going back to work, so it all counts as a single absence.

September 24th I got a sore throat and a chesty cough. I remember the date because I had to give an important presentation to a customer and was struggling to talk through without coughing and wheezing.

Two separate courses of anti-biotics, a week off work for ‘rest’ and today is the first day I have stopped coughing up great lumps of phlegm. Still don’t feel 100% but the dull, persistent headache and constant coughing has finally stopped.

2 weeks into it for me now. Started with a sore throat, then a mild head cold followed by an incredibly painful chest with plenty of snotty lumps coming up. Thought I was getting over it and now it’s become a really fierce tickly cough with no let up for the past few days.

Wife and toddler have also caught it off me. We haven’t slept much for the last week. Pretty sure I caught it off our son in the first place. Just keeps going round and round and round oh the joys of nursery.

3 weeks since I re-herniated a disc in my back and this coughing is crippling me.

Properly fed up of this now. 3 weeks and just seem to be going round in circles. Sneezing, coughing, wheezing and constant fog.

Have days where it starts to feel a bit better and then starts all over again.

Day 16 for me now. Pretty sure I’ve had two separate cold virus’s that have overlapped as I’ve never had anything last this long. Woke up this morning (well from 3am) absolutely crammed full of a cold. Yay back to square one. Been on the sofa asleep most of the afternoon. Haven’t really touched my bikes for over 3 weeks now which is telling is I tend to ride pretty much daily.

Fortunately little man is much better now but that means he’ll just pick up the next box set of viruses from nursery on Monday.

Now into week 4 of this bug and no signs of it shifting since the relapse last Wednesday. The physical fatigue is insane, moving between rooms is a chore; a 15-30min walk is laboured; stairs are a nightmare; pre-bug z2 power on the turbo feels like at least z4.

Still sleeping a lot and the intensity of head cold symptoms changes from day to day.

It takes very little movement to make my quads and knees moan like hell, it’s like a prolonged version of the extreme fatigue I had after my first OxAZ jab back in April.

Where I work there’s quite a few people off sick with Flu-like symptoms (and others trying to work but they sound at death’s door on Teams calls), everyone’s still working remotely to. Also 2 in my team of 8 have COVID at the moment (both have been working remotely and not in contact with each other), only mild symptoms and both still working though.

Think I had this a couple of weeks ago. I’ve never had a ‘cold’ last a week before this, but by the sounds of this thread, I got off lightly.

Negative LFTs x4 throughout. No ‘Covid’ (PCR) symptoms, but horrible runny nose, lethargy, malaise etc that just kept on going! Missed one day of work from it, which is very unusual for me. The worst bit was the random sore knees that started on day 7 but fortunately only lasted for ~48 hrs.
