When looking at OS maps for Scotland there’s a distinct lack of marked footpaths so it’s useful to compare against the Strava heat map to see where others have roamed. Has anyone managed to marry the two?

I’ve done it in a very clunky manual way but it’s not ideal for a lot of effort. The best I have found is Alpine Quest. You can put a Strava heat map over a huge range of open maps. The open cycle and open terrain maps are pretty good. Decent app with live tracking and the like.

That Alpine Quest looks pretty good, just paid, it’s on sale for about 30% off for the next 24 hours.

I’ve stopped my Ride with GPS sub and this looks like a good value replacement.

However, it’s a shame the heat map layer is so coarse and hidden at closer zoom levels.
