The Snakecatcher is nice pub food and The Pig is a bit posher but you might need to book there. They’re both in Brockenhurst.

I hear that badgers are good eating, needs plenty of garlic mind.

Quite like the Red Shoot and it’s not far from the A31 if you’re just passing through. North side of the Forest though which may not suit depending on which other bits you’re visiting.

    Lyndhurst or brockenhurst probably

Nice enough for a wedding anniversary, but not so posh we’ll be turned away for arriving by bike

Possibly with a garden, as forecast tomorrow looks good

Ah, sorry – I’m more “northern”
I ate in the snakecatcher once but it was 15 years ago. Nice enough then, FWIW 🙂

Not a posh restaurant but the Greenwood Tree Cafe on Lyndhurst High Street just up from the Ferrari garage does nice food all day. Woods bike shop opposite too.

The Pig and Limewood are under the same ownership. Someone who had eaten in both told me he reckoned the Pig was better. If you look at their two websites you may get an idea of which you might prefer: Limewood has a tie in with Angela Hartnett, and the Pig is all about local sourcing, including their own garden etc.

In your shoes, I would go for the Pig, but either should be good.

I’ve always liked the Oak Inn in Lyndhurst. Nothing outstanding but pretty consistently good food and beer.

The East End Arms at Lymington is a cracking little pub, with excellent food and accommodation. Very highly recommended!

The Bath Chap, nothing quite like eating a pigs face. I got married at The Pig, food there is excellent. The Oak at bank is good as is the Royal Oak at Fritham.

@slowster thats interesting will try The Pig – potentially daft question but how is the fish / vegetarian food

Don’t know if its open to non residents, but the Senspa in Brockenhurst does great Thai food.

EDIT: We’re both veggies and had plenty of choice.

The veggie options are good, even a carnivore like myself had a vegetarian meal there once, fish is very good also.

Ooh, we went to a pub on that somarich’s farewell ride. It was nice. I think you could only get there on foot or bike* (no roads!). That’s gotta be a bonus.

    *maybe I’m dreaming this

Can’t remember the name of the place anyway 😆
