  • any recommendations for first SPD shoe?

My first foray into clip-in pedals. I need shoes that will mostly be for commuting but also a bit of both road and mtb. I won’t be using them too much when very muddy so don’t need a large or flexible sole, which might hamper road riding and I don’t plan to do much walking in when mbt.

Any suggestions for CHEAP (>£60) beginner shoes that are ok for a bit of everything. I have bought mtb SPDs (Shimano M540) and so don’t want a road specific shoe.

The bottom end Shimano MT23 have a certain appeal (ie low price)
but I have also seen the Fly Racing ones are discounted on CRC

A lot really comes down to fit.

It’s worth going to a shop and trying a few different pairs on to see how comfortable they are for you and to get the sizing right.

I’ve just got some DHB MTB ones from Wiggle (£35). I like them……

i got the £30 muddyfox ones at sports direct. seem ok to me. strappy loop things arnt great for the ham fisted but they fit my wide size 9’s great. they size up big though – i’m using an size 8.

before that i got second hand vans warners off the classifieds somewhere.

i prefer teh vans as they are less euro camp and the vans grip a pedal if you miss a clip-in.
