I suggest you give Simon at Loco Tuning a call. I recently bought Rev Rct3’s from him for cheaper than you have mentioned you can get them from Merlin, but they come fully serviced from him so you won’t get any problems like you describe from the German shops.
Simon really is great to deal with 😉

I paid £314 from Merlin for my RCT3s dual airs. I’m beginning to think that was a pricing error 😛
They’re great forks though. I reckon they’re better than Fox 140 RLC FITs and they’re circa £700 RRP so the RockShox are still a good deal at £450 ish.
Oh, and you can give up looking for 20mm forks. Fishers stopped importing 20mm Revs for 2012.Posted 5 years ago
This isn’t a bad price, providing you don’t mind remote lockout.
I suspect you can remove the lockout remote if you wish, might require a bit of internal fettling.Posted 5 years ago
can the travel be reduced on these with spacers, and is the RCT damper worth the extra dosh?
Yep, travel can be reduced with spacers (2x10mm) which should be included in the box. It’s not too hard to do yourself if you’re confident at taking forks apart. The instructions are on the SRAM website.
The RCT3 is supposed to be better, but it’s mainly for the extra dials. The actual damper mechanism is more or less the same in all the DNA MoCo 2012 forks, I think. Considering I haven’t seen the RCT3s for less than £500 recently, I’d say that it’s not worth spending an extra £150 for it.Posted 5 years ago
The Revs are now a completely different fork now though. When released c.2005 (Basically the same chassis as your 2008 forks), the Revs were kinda budget. Whereas now they’re the ‘flagship’ trail fork and longer travel but also lighter, stiffer and better-damped. The 2008 ones had a fairly basic MoCo damper, the new ones have much posher DNA MoCo.
All in all, the 2012 versions are significantly better than the 2008 forks.Posted 5 years ago
