I’m in rut and in need of some advice!

I’ve been at the same company for near on 14 years in various roles and I feel like it’s time to move on. But I don’t really know what I want to do next.

I’m in the process of re-writing my CV. Now in my mid-fifties I have lots of experience but not really knowing what I want in my next role, I’m struggling as to what to leave in what to remove and what to add. I had thought to keep my CV as broad as possible in the hope something would come up that would interest me that I’d not considered.

I’ve recently changed my LinkedIn status to ‘Open to work’ and I’ve had several recruiters contact me with opportunities. However, I needed to tailor my CV to role, but in all honesty none of them inspired me enough to make the changes.

I realise that real advice doesn’t come free and I’m happy to pay for a service, so if anyone here does this for a living, please DM me or anyone can recommend a service.

I’m eager to move on from this rut as it’s starting to play on my mind and is creeping into other areas of my life.

    Thanks!

Maybe write a cv ‘master document’ with everything, then you can copy/past/edit bits out into semi customised CV’s according to specific jobs you are applying for? just an idea.

I’ve recruited for several roles recently via agencies and directly and would offer the following suggestions.

Do try and tailor your cv to the role being offered.

Do research the companies your interviewing for and if it’s a change in industry research that as well. You can even be cheeky and look on companies house at their figures depending on size and see where they sit in the marketplace against competitors. People like it when you show an interest in what they do.

Indeed allows you to ‘fling mud at the wall’ when it comes to applying for jobs, it’s pretty obvious when people do this.

Have a look on line at how best to present  cv, there’s no perfect way but I’ve seen some good candidates present them terribly.

Don’t go into an interview with the mindset that you have to get the job, be yourself & if you’re the right fit it will work out in the end.

Show up 5 mins before, not 45 mins before, that’s annoying AF.

If someone offers you a drink, pick the cup up when you leave and ask where it goes, don’t leave it for someone else to clear up after you.

def this- I had a guy turn up 1 hr before. All possible rooms were booked already and we don’t have a maned reception so he was told to either wait in his car or come back at the correct time.

Yeah, I normally get there well in advance incase of travel problems, but go somewhere close by for a coffee/sit in car to go over some last min notes/answers, etc..

Then rock up 10-15 mins before the start time so you’re not rushed or flustered, and things are still fresh in your mind.
