Need some decent bag gloves also for hitting focus pads.

Currently have some Blitz MMA grappling gloves which have good wrist support but if your hitting the bag hard and for prolonged periods they kind of dig in around your fingers.

The other gloves I have are blitz 14oz boxing gloves which I also wear inner bag gloves in with a bit of a wrist wrap. These offer a lot more protection than the MMA gloves however I find my thumb very exposed as it seems to stick out and I keep whacking it. I also find it quite difficult to close my fist in them. The problem with “proper” boxing gloves is that they dont come in sizes, just weights, i.e 8, 10, 12, 14oz not S/M/L, so I often find them quite big on my hands

Any recommendations? Quite like something with a bit of wrist support and wraps isn’t an option as they just take too long.

    Cheers

I always wrapped my hand with long wraps and then used cheap gloves from Sports direct (lonsdales I think). Usually a 14 or a 16oz glove.

I use sparring gloves (14oz i think) and wraps. With long wraps your hand should fill the glove a bit better.

I have some bag gloves too and don’t like them due my thumb sticking out.

Why are you hitting things hard for prolonged periods of time without wearing wrist wraps? No gloves of any description will prevent you injuring yourself doing that.

I would take the time and use wraps, better than a spragged wrist. Also good for light bag work, good for nailing technique.

I won’t go on the heavy bag without wraps. One of the lads in the gym has velcro glove things. I find more stuff is doable with wraps on; kettlebells, skipping, chins etc.

I had to order some wraps for using out in this desert. The bag we have is quite heavy and I knacked my wrist just using gloves. I use Lonsdale mitts and long wraps back in the uk. I have small hands as well.

Surely 2 minutes putting wraps on is worth it? I use a pair of Adidas pad gloves at the moment but I’m not overly impressed with them. A Thai brand called Boon are supposedly the dogs nada’s but they are quite hard to get here and are around £50. There are the occasional pair on EBay. Happy shopping!

I like my Hatton gloves for general sparring, pad work and bag work. Reasonably priced and actually fit my hands regardless of weight. I’ve got 12oz and 16oz ones. For proper Thai stuff I use 16oz Twins but they’re pretty pricey at £80 a pair. Avoid the cheaper Everlast or Lonsdale stuff you find in Sports Direct.

This. I’m not a hard hitter by any means yet always always wrap.

the thing with my 14ox gloves is I struggle to actually make a fist and find my fist is slightly open which cant be good, my thumb also projects forward and you cant curl it over meaning I whack my thumb a lot!!

Blitz is a crap brand. It’s really budget entry level stuff. Cheapest gloves, Gis, shinpads that we sell in the gym. Go and try on a decent pair of gloves and you’ll notice an immediate difference. Try a decent brand:

    Rival
    Grant
    BadBoy
    King
    Twins
    Fairtex
    Venum
    Hayabusa
    Punchtown
    etc

Your hands are actually pretty important and crap gloves run the risk of serious injury. Pretty much anything sold in a generic sports shop is going to be crap. Go to a martial arts or MMA shop and try some on. If there isn’t one nearby then buy them from a specialist website. I use made4fighters for most of my equipment.
