Another question for the coppers (sorry Facebook content)
One assumes that a copper’s Facebook page is his or her own business but would she likely see a bit of trouble over this?
Any comments any of post on social networks can get into trouble with our employers if we’re identifiable and our job is too. Our professional body has made this quite clear this week.Posted 4 years ago

Coincidentally this week or because of the events in London? Serious question, how would they know? Would someone have to report it do you think? Or are they “watching”?Posted 4 years ago
Agreeing with the sentiment of the message doesn’t mean they agree with the political views of the OP.
Yes, point taken, and I was trying to say that the sentiment behind the photo is fine by me. My question was more “is it ok for a copper to “like” an EDL post?” – no matter how harmless the post. Apologies if I’m not making myself clear.Posted 4 years agoDracSubscriber

Actaully it may have been last week but either way coincidentally. Well it could be reported but they could also spot it I suppose.
As for the EDL thing, wouldn’t want to test it but the comment EDL is making seems a fair comment but what they stand for isn’t. Like Samuri says I bet he never looked to see where it had come from.Posted 4 years agomaccruiskeenSubscriber
Funnily enough – someone on my timeline has shared the same thing. Certainly not someone who’d want to big up the EDL but the source of the post might not be immediately apparent to people when they share it – as they’re probably sharing someone else’s share.Posted 4 years ago
So, mrs deadly just did a double take at a “like” on her timeline. A copper friend of hers has “Liked” a picture posted by Yorkshire EDL Leeds Division (the real EDL, not the Disco Lovers). FWIW, this is the picture:
And while I agree more or less with the sentiment of the picture, is it wise for a copper to be “liking” anything the EDL posts up? One assumes that a copper’s Facebook page is his or her own business but would she likely see a bit of trouble over this? I’m just being curious here btw, not having a go at coppers, Facebook, etc.Posted 4 years agoadjustablewenchMember
I have recently worked on a stress at work case where the claimant produced pages and pages of facebook message thread screen shots to back up his argument.
They were of conversations he had with a colleague before they fell out but contained some very personal stuff.
it really makes you think where stuff you write will end up :-/Posted 4 years agokonabunnyMember
Even racist bigots occasionally have sensible thoughts. I’m not actually so sure what’s wrong with agreeing with sensible thoughts no matter what the source is – play the ball, not the man and all that.
Because endorsing their words enables them to construct a veneer of reasonableness. It’s not playing the man – they’re challenged for what they believe and espouse (the ball), not who they are (the man).
Btw this kind of “like if you believe in Jesus” or “share if you care” bollocks is just the worst stuff on Facey.Posted 4 years agoCountZeroMember
I’m sure that pic will be appearing in a post by one or other friends or relations on Fb, purely because of connections with the military, and the sentiment, and I would have ‘liked’ it too. And will, because of what the photo means, not the jackasses who posted it in the first place.Posted 4 years ago
As a bit of a PSA, it seems that a bit of a bug (or something else, I wouldn’t know tbh) may have been doing the rounds on Facebook yesterday evening, as one of mrs deadly’s good friends informed her that she had “liked” an EDL photo as well. 😯 She has since removed the like from her profile (as, funnily enough, had her copper friend). I checked mine, as I had gone onto the EDL Yorkshire-Leeds page to view the image but it hadn’t appeared as a “like” on my profile.
I noticed clubber and others above mentioning that some of their friends had (uncharacteristically) “liked” one of these images as well. I noticed some of my friends (also uncharacteristically) “liking” strange photos and pages yesterday. Might be worth checking your profiles to make sure a mystery “like” hasn’t appeared on your timeline as well. 😐Posted 4 years agoScapegoatSubscriber
Whereas I received a quote today which reads
“If the EDL are so concerned about being English, why aren’t they doing more Morris Dancing or entering jam-making competitions instead of being massive bellends.”
I’m sure it’s not original, and I have no idea who to attribute it to, but it did make me smile. 😀Posted 4 years ago
