In the Lakes this weekend looking for a good ride 😉

Was walking down to Patterdale from ATP earlier in the summer thinking it would be s great descent on the bike…anyone done that and how did you work it into a bigger loop? TIA

Start/finish at Hartsop village carpark, up to the reservoir, hike onto the shoulder near The Knott, then descend via Satura crags/ATP to Boredale Hause. Head NE over Beda Fell. Optional ridgeline NE over Beda Head or descend bridleway to road at Dale head. Mostly tarmac to Sandwick, Lakeshore Path back to start. Not massive mileage but a very consistent rocky tech loop, 3+hrs.

thats basically the route we did between Christmas and new year, descending to the road at dale head, worth doing. was made even more interesting with snow and ice on it in places.

whats the ridgeline like? never tried it.

It’s an excellent path over to Boredale Hause – will be interesting what the descent on the Hause bridleway becomes after the repairs have finished… looked promising during the summer.

I did on on Friday. It’s one of my favourite rides. Especially with a summer swim stop at Angle Tarn.

Boredale Hause to Patterdale lower path is not finished and a mess. Upper path better but not sure if top bit is finished.

The hike a bike up from Haweswater is a featureless grassy wall and it is getting back to its boggy best.

There are a few options for loops around Boredale Head and Ullswater shore or adding in next valley east.

what’ this about this path or higherror bw.

I’m aware of some wOrkney bing done on numerous good lakes bits but must have missed this one. hope they are not flattening it out love that decent 😕

what’ this about this path or higherror bw.

Its stone pitching for about 60% from where the FP and BW split heading down towards the disused quarry. TBH its not a bad job and there are still a few nice drops off the original boulders that lined the left side and a couple of grassy humps to get air off.  The bottom half seems like it might survive as it is as there are no black bags of pitching stone anywhere near there and the surface is in pretty decent nick

The bit higher up still needs work finishing off and a lot of walkers have already made a worn path along a bit of a ridge to the left of the original FP/BW before the fork.

@bigfoot The ridgeline is lightly trodden windy singletrack with some very tech descents mixed in, and a good steep finish Eastwards down to the bridleway above howgrain beck. Thankfully not on strava (long may it last).

liking the sound of the “very tech descents” will have to try it sometime. i assume the BW above howgrain beck is the short one you go on after the road from dale head linking to the road to sandwick.

the BW down to dale head is a fast blast down and entertaing when slippery but not much of interest on it.

postie – looks great. Was doing a nav course around there in July and thought that bit of trail would be great down to Patterdale, or at least Boredale Hause. Assuming you’ve done it. Looking for a good 20 miler that takes that in – any recommendations?

Pooley Bridge – Askam moor – Howtown – Ullswater bridleway – Hartsop – Knott – Satura crag – Angle tarn – Boredale – Patterdale for lunch, then back along UBW to Pooley Bridge. A fine low level-ish route.

fridge and rich might answer this question regarding this area.

I’ve ridden out of Pooley a few times but instead of hheading down to howtown, what’ it like to carry on from the cockpit up to loadpot and follow highstreet effectivey to kidsty and double back towards the knott and then be naughty?

Its a push and very boggy in places I,ve done it a few times and worth the effort plus size tyres for the win on most of it!
