Current debate in the household is to either go for an engineered floor or Amtico in the kitchen. There is a lot of light, big south facing windows and skylights, I’ve read that Amtico tends to fade and some of the lighter colours can go green, especially where there is a lot of UV.
Im therefore considering if amtico is a suitable option or not. An oiled engineered floor has its challenges also, not the best for spills but pretty easy to restore.
Im also considering a UV film on the windows abs skylights, would  help with privacy (well until it gets dark and the lights go on) and cut down on UV on the surfaces.

so, question to Amtico owners, are you happy with yours?
    thnx

By Amtico you probably mean LVT as there are loads of brands, most of them Chinese made (including Amtico I believe, or is it Karndean).

It can suffer greening if too much direct sunlight IME. It’s happened in one spot in our house but some reason not in other sun drenched spots which is weird. It’s so much easier to leave with than other solutions however.

Is that Amtico or A N Other brand?

My parents had Amtico down in the kitchen since the early 70s – green and gold. It showed no signs of fading in nearly 40 years…

Didn’t notice it fading at all in our last house. It was down for 6 years with big south facing windows. It does go softer in heat though and we’d notice it would be more susceptible to impact marks if we dropped pans or spanner’s in hot weather. 😇 Otherwise it was very hard wearing.

We’ve had it in various places in a few homes and never noticed any fading or discolouration (some Amtico, some Karndean).  Though it’s surely going to depend a lot on the starting floor colour.  Easier to live with than any other type of flooring we’ve had and few people notice it’s not actually stone/wood/whatever.

Whereas any real wood floor (engineered or not) will definitely change colour where it’s exposed to the sun.

had kardean LVT down for 18months, 4.5m bifolds west facing so get all the evening sun (there is also a south facing window and a skylight).  So far no fading.

I was told they could potentially see a difference where a doormat is used, we haven’t, I also was told discolouration can be caused by the type of rubber used in the doormat, so I spent more than i’d like on a turtlemat.  I have no idea if this is true or just a sales pitch.

As for hard wearing I’m afraid my experience is it is not as good as I had been lead to believe,  We fitted ‘commercial’ grade stuff.  It scratches under chairs and furniture when it is moved even with me putting pads on the legs, and replacing them every few months.  Its not terrible but it has definitely scratched.  I’m told you can strip it of its finish and spray it back on but that means moving every thing outside to do it, so maybe a job for a summer day.

Primary reason I didn’t go with engineered was I was concerned with expansion in the sun / heat.   It was my preference as I could have fitted myself.

Having watched the guy fit LVT it is also really not that hard, so I will be doing the hallway myself eventually.

Ours has greened quite badly – now 5 years but it was noticeable after 2 (conveniently the end of snagging period). Not sure how evident it is from the picture.

I’m going to show my missis Hot Fiat’s photo, I get moaned at for doing a bit of bike maintenance in our kitchen. 🤣

Not that I take any notice though.

I’ve had Amtico (the actual brand) in a kitchen and bathrooms for 7 years with zero issues. It’s a great product as needs zero maintenance and is very hard wearing.

My karndeans been down 25 years and still looks fresh.  Ironically, in an adjacent utility room with no direct sunlight it has faded a bit, but I think that’s damp as it’s a single skinned room with no insulation above or below.

I d deffo replace it some time with similar as it hasn’t marked at all, no scratches, scuffs etc.

Had self installed Amtico down for about 10 years. Still looks like new. Have a much cheaper tile in another room and that has not lasted nearly as well. Lots of wear marks where the furniture is.

If you want hard wearing I would recommend the key test. Take a sample and try and scratch it with the sharp bit of a key. With the proper tough stuff you will make a mark but it takes quite an effort, with the cheap stuff it’ll go through the top layer with one firm stroke.

Just to add, this was installed by the house builder from new. Now I’m trying to remember whether Amtico or Karndean –  I think Amtico but its apparently the budget version of their flooring (having been included with the house).

I put Karndean down* in our south facing hall 21 years ago. Partially glazed door and sidelights and I can’t see that it has faded but I don’t have a new piece to compare too. It’s very hard wearing, and still looks good IMO.

*what a job that was, glue everywhere!

Have Amtico in a south facing kitchen with big doors and skylights. Been down 7 years and in very good shape, no fading but that might be down to colour choice – ours is a grey-ish finish. It does scratch a bit if something hard gets under chair legs, but the scratches fade pretty quickly. But, we’ve made sure to put pads on all table and chair legs from day 1. But the room can get very warm and plenty of direct light, and two kids have played in this room and done pretty much everything kids do on the floor, it gets a lot of foot traffic including in and outdoors, and has lots of life left in it and the busy areas not worse than others.

    It fades.

    South facing Bifolds.

General fading might not be much of an issue, but, if like us you had a rug there, under our table, it’s acted like masking tape.

We have both, Amtico is as it was when it went down 5 years ago while the wood is definitely fading.

Mine didn’t fade at all in 15 years, but it was green and probably not much direct sun light

You can see where our turtle mat has been on our polished concrete.  Whether it’s’ from the rubber of the mat, or the sun on the rest of it who knows.  But I think you have to expect any flooring at all to change a little and getting no light at all is going to stop that
