Been using itunes for ages for listening to music and ripping mp3’s but are there any better alternatives out there? Free of course!

If it works, what’s the point of changing? There are supposed to be some music managing apps out there which are allegedly “better”, but the people making the claims are usually rabidly anti-Apple, so I view their opinions as inherently suspect.

Can’t help – but I remember a claim that Itunes will not be using the ‘best’ MP3 coding algorithm (if indeed you are using MP3)…and need to be using LAME (?). Hoping somebody can clarify this.
Better alternative….probably Windows Media Player (!)..but then copying files into iTunes just for Synching to Ipod.

Amazon is good and generally cheaper than iTunes (though not as slick).

Brycey, read the OP, he’s ripping cd’s into iTunes, he’s not on about shopping for music. Amazon is cheaper because the record companies favour Amazon and sell them music for less than Apple can buy it.
