  • Alfine 11. Oil or Grease?

I have an Alfine 11 which is currently seeping a (little) bit of oil from the drive side seal.

Shimano make a grease which apparently is designed to be used with their IGHs.

If I were to change to grease rather than pilot would it leak less?

If I change to grease is it a simple matter of syringing out their and squinting am appropriate amount of grease into the fill hole and replacing the plug bolt?

Thank you oh great and wise STW.

It would leak less right up to the time it stopped working. The ATF that Shimano specify is a particular viscosity for a reason. Grease is used for assembly of seals , If you use grease it will gum up the shifter mechanism.

    The 8 speed is greased.

    The 11 speed is oil.
