Looking at getting a second hand car to replace my diesel skoda. Budget is around 15K. I ride to work, so I’ve decided that economy isn’t a consideration as the car won’t actually do many miles. So I’d be looking at Turbo / large diplacement petrol 🙂 Must have 4 doors for kids seats, so no coupes unfortunatley
    What would you get…:

You can have my BMW 330i for a third of your budget. It meets all your requirements 😀

    I have run a 2003 RS6 Avant for the past 6.5 years.

In the same boat as you. Commute all week by bike and make up for the loss in carbon footprint with 19mpg at weekends 😀

Easily get a sorted clean example for 15K these days.

and barter them down as much as you can? You can get the 300 easy for £15k, but the 330 and 360s are more costly.

Tou’ll get a 10 year old Porsche 911 for that price and the kids will fit snugly in the back. Doesn’t have 4 doors but will be lots of fun.

    Mountain Mutant.

That appears to have an automatic gearbox. Why?

Mastiles, looks like Audi’s take on the tiptronic to me. Sequential shifting on the right (small cut out below the gear knob)

    will

What MM said. I Love RS6s

    Or a 911 if you don’t mind 2 doors.

That could well be right. It still isn’t a manual though 😉

Wife has rulled out a 911. That will be my midlife crisis car.

Mastiles, it’s Tiptronic, has paddles on the steering wheel as well.

    The RS4 is full manual

manual wasn’t in the brief…typical graphic designer not reading the brief 😉

I know. It is simply me – I would much rather have a full manual than any fancy gearbox when I eventually manage to be able to afford to buy some stupidly daft car.

    Vauxhall Monaro.

    You know I’m right.

EDIT – 4 doors? Bloody kids seats.

    Alfa 147 or 156 GTA 🙂

get a very tidy example for 10K and take it to Autodelta to be played with 🙂

edit: one autodelta already played with, 3.8L v6 with 300bhp

Spend half that on a higher mileage old Beemer or something which was well built and will go on forever, plus has plenty of space under your right foot (spend the other half on fun stuff) Pistonheads will be your friend for a while.

If it’s big enough for your needs, look at a 5 door BMW 130i. A very good package in my slightly biased opinion (although I have no kids and went for a 3 door).

    Merc S class.
Always wanted one and nearly picked up a very cheap one earlier this year.
Fuel and tyre and replacement exhaust prices put me off, but they really are beautiful to drive.

Some lovely well looked after cars around.
Flags on the front wings, obviously.

    A4 3.2 Quattro so far

While you aren’t so fussed on economy, my neighbour reckons 20mpg is the norm in his 3.2 A3…

    tbh I’d spend less than £15k – and I did – E39 535i

If you’re looking for a manual, there is an E39 M5 for sale near me at £7k – looks in real good condition.
