  • A question about hubs and Torque Caps

I’m building up a new hardtail using a mix of new parts and spares I already have. I have some new Pike Ultimates to fit that are Torque Cap compatible and I presume because of this, have a bloody great 30mm(ish) recess in the dropouts.

The wheel I’m fitting is a standard E thirteen (boost) from another bike and has 15mm end caps that fitted a Fox 36. Soooooo, can I fit this as is? Obviously it will be trickier to line up with the hole/maxle as it won’t be snug with the recess, but will it be OK otherwise? Or are Torque Caps a must?

    Any advice appreciated. Ta 🙂

It’ll work just fine. As you say, just needs a bit more care when lining it all up.

It will be fine without the torque caps.

Yep, wife’s orange came with torque cap hubs but normal 15mm hub.

Swapped the wheel over as it became a pain when putting the bike in the car.

I use these, work perfectly and much cheaper than proper torque caps.

I’ve a set of those adapters spare if anyone needs a pair. About £8 posted (I ordered two sets from Bikester due to steep postage)
