Never done one of these before!

I got my lovely new frame today

and a pile of shiny bits.

The frame looks orange but is the reddest red I’ve ever seen. Think Ferrari 🙂

Is that the new production Shand 29er + or a custom job?

    Can’t wait to see this

    It’s a custom job. 8)

29+, short stays, ebb, 100mm BB, 170 rear, 44mm HT, slack

Some heli taping done, steerer marked. Will be kept longish initially just in case

I can colour it in if you want, it’ll be very muddy tomorrow night hopefully though.

Absolute black TT ring on, reverb in.

Oh my that is a nice looking frame. Will it take 26″ fat wheels as well?

That was my fault. Thought we had a black one but was wrong and wanted to get the bike out to BM asap.

    29+, 100mm BB, 170 rear

Can I ask why you went for 100mm bb and 170mm rear?
If it’s just for 29+ you could have got away with 73mm bb and 135mm rear like the Krampus.

I contacted Steve a few years ago and we got the ball rolling for a BFe like inspired HT. Sadly he wasn’t confident in building it so the project stopped. Would have only been £725 🙁

Very, very nice. More detail on sizing, geo, cost, etc please 😀

And what’s the clearance like for 29+ in a Bluto?

    bedmaker
    Full Member

Knard was on while the frame was being built to check clearances, will be replaced with another Chronicle.

Wide BB and rear is to allow space to get the chainstays down to under 430mm. I’ve ridden the Krampus and it’s really not my cup of tea. Way too long.

Cost is normally well north of a grand, but I specced it without the usual solid silver headbadge so it was only £200. Pretty good value for full custom 853!

Geo is 68 deg head, 50mm BB drop +/- 8mm with the ebb.
Chainstay 420 – 436 depending on ebb setting.
    Wheelbase 1119mm
    Seat angle effective 73ish

29+ in the bluto is tight right at the very ‘peak’ of the tyre but acres all round otherwise.

Time to get this build finished and ride the thing!

Still have time to edit that price. Surely can’t be correct.

    That’s one expensive headtube badge!

    That’s one expensive headtube badge!

It’s made by artisans in the woods near Falkirk, with high purity silver. All Shand frames are £200 without the badge.
Not a lot of people know that.

I’m just going to put an On one onto mine. Who’s gonna notice?

    RustyMac

£200 is outrageous value for money for a custom frame especially in 853. You are pulling my leg with that price yeah?

^^^ Really? You have to ask? 😀

And hurry up Bedmaker, I’m looking forward to seeing the finished bike.

Is that £200 including the £500 deposit? 🙂

Or is £200 the value being reported to the wife?

Well my first bike build thread sort of fizzled out with pressures of work and getting ready to go away for a weekend biking 🙂
Here’s the fininshed article, enjoying some wintery conditions at Badaguish this morn.

    Just like your fatbike Shand.
Good to see someone with enough balls to be spending their own cash on what they want without waiting for someone to be selling one at a knockdown price when a discount code comes up.

It’s people like you that help to push things forward.

You’ve got me a sussed. Am I going to have to form a fat bike splinter group for people with thrifty, mass produced bikes bought in the first week of December with that cursed 20% code?

    Thing is though.
You’d never have that chance without people trying out new stuff. 🙂
