    Will a 9 speed front mech work,ok on an 8 speed setup
    I think it will, but any experiences befor e I build it

    From memory 8 & 9 speed chains are the same with so the front mech are the same for both.

    It works – it’s what I’m running on two bikes. However, 8 and 9 speed chains aren’t the same, 9 speed are narrower.

    My 96 Cinder cone runs a 9 speed front mech with 8 speed changer and 8 speed rear no problem.
