I’d like to convert a tripple chainset to use that with double rings. I’d like to use 40t 104bcd in the middle position, and 26t 64bcd in the inner position. I have a Whippet frame with press-fit bottom bracket. What about clearance issues?? Would the 40t chainring hit the chainstay? And what about 26t?

    Many thanks!

Could You, please help? What’s Your opinion?

    We can’t see your frame.

See how much clearance you have to play with on the existing set up, work out how much you need, is there enough?

Ok, I know… 🙂 But I’m curious about Your experience!

I’ve been running 24/38 on an oldish 6″ all mountain bike and find it works really well. More than enough range of gears with an 11-34 on the back. Given the bike is probably a lot heavier than your whippet and I’m likely less fit you should be fine with that combination. Sorry but can’t help on the clearance issues!

Yeah, the gear ratio will be fine, I’m just affraid of clearance…

I’ve run 28/40 on several frames with no clearance issues. Whippets aren’t famed for their chainstay clearance though. Can’t you work it out based on your current clearance?

    No, I can’t because I don’t have the crank at the moment…

    Do you have a crank?
