  • 4 pots on a Genesis Fortitude rigid fork – daft q?

    So the stock deore brakes on my Genesis Fortitude (rigid fork) have finally given up the ghost. Eyeing up the magura trail sport with the 4 pot front/2 pot rear at merlins. Any reason why not to on a rigid fork? I’m i correct in thinking same braking force just split over 4 pots so should be fine?

    I’d go 2 pots (mt or mt4) but would prefer the single finger lever which these come with.

    Peak force is related to the traction between tyre and surface, so you’ll not add extra load to the fork by going 4 pot.

    Which, whilst true isn’t relevant to the brake and its mounts. The braking moment is equal to force times distance from pivot, in this case the rotor radius, hence why mounts are restricted by rotor diameter rather than tyre grip.

    But in any case, as you said the amount of pistons is an irrelevance, more pistons =! more force.
