    Evening all,

Got a ride Sunday morning (road) with a few triathletes from work. The banter has got a bit out of hand over the last few days and I need to make sure I’m at least doing as much as my current fitness will allow.

Last ride was Tuesday night so should be fresh already.

Any tips for essentially pre-race prep?

Food. Rest. Ride the day before or not? Etc etc?

    Tips much appreciated

Ha. That’s actually really amusing as I’ve a colleague who gets himself a shandy when it’s his round so he can last the duration on a night out. He told me this once whilst about 8 pints in. My round next and whispered to get him a shandy. I of course got him a 6% beer and he proceeded to call me all the names under the sun for the rest of the evening!

Triathletes? Simple tactic. Just laugh at their fugly bikes and their silly compression socks or sleeves.

They are triathletes. Catch up on the down hills and try to avoid them when they crash and/or wear sleeveless jerseys.

How do you know when you meet someone who has done an iron man?

Triathletes ye say? Either get them talking about themselves, or get them to ride for each other, through and off. That’ll pickle their selfish heads.

**** me; that should be banned.

Don’t drink beer or eat pizza the night before; guaranteed to make your performance tank

Take a shed load of drugs ?
Invite the Tri boys to do a through and off
Make sure its a hilly route if they are on full aero bikes , or exposed hill tops if they are on 80mm aero clinchers .
Organise a pub stop mid ride and get some pork scratchings in.
You dont need to perform at your best , just betterer than them.

On the way into or out of transition, probably into as they aren’t dripping wet? Shoes left on the bike and run through transition are to bike racks.

Talk during the ride, that’ll confuse them, as long as their names aren’t Johnny and Alistair that is.

Take them on a route that involves corners, claims and basically anything that involves operating a bike in any other situation than smashing it in a straight line.

Aim for a route that takes in some twisty, bumpy back roads and maybe past farms where there will be mud on the road.. they wont want to get their bikes dirty or risk falling off their £5k+ tri bikes.. so will go very slowly..

    Cycle past a bike rack.

Tje urge to transition will be too strong.

Sporting equipment that doesn’t look victorian. Like it.

Stop taking cycling so seriously – it’s supposed to be fun!

Drink as much beetroot juice as you can the morning of the ride.

The nitrates dilate blood vessels, allowing for easier oxygen delivery to muscles so you don’t tire as easily and your endurance will be greater. True fact, google it on yahoo.
