My mum’s birthday is coming up, and she has asked for some lightweight binoculars so she can spy at the neighbours in the shower watch the birds in her garden etc. I know nothing about them, so could someone recommend at least a decent brand…and hopefully a model. Also, will I actually get anything decent for £30-£40?

    IMO no.

Incidentally, why are binoculars always fitted with lenses (expensive) and not mirrors (cheaper)?

Well, I got impatient and ordered a pair of these.

Hopefully they are not too bad…

They use prisms and lenses which allows them to be compact and relatively robust.

A reflector is very sensitive and is easy to knock out of alignment. I think!

Thanks for the link rene59, but the weight would have been a bit much for me old dear at 630 grams.
