    Hi,

I’m currently building a set of 29er plus rims for my scandal.

I’ve got the hope pro 4 hubs and 2.6 nobby nics, will probably go bigger on the front in time, just need to pick a rim.

I’ve narrowed it down to 3 rims, just wondered if I’ve missed any or if I should avoid them? I’m after sub 600g rims and nothing too expensive. I also want to be able to run 2.35 tyres in case plus isn’t for me.

    Any recommendations?

    1) halo vapour 536g, 30 internal, 35 external. Designed for 2.25 to 2.8 tyres. https://www.halowheels.com/shop/components/rims/halo-vapour-35-rim-29/

    2) Stans flow rim. 527g, 29 internal, 32.3 external, designed for 2.35 to 2.8 tyres.

    3) Stans sentry rim. 556g, 32 internal, 35.4 external, designed for 2.5 to 3 tyres.

    Thanks

Had a pair of WTB Asym i35s built up last year, running 2.6 nobby nic/3” DHF combo at the mo. 35mm internal.

Been solid, about £60 each. https://www.wiggle.co.uk/wtb-asym-i-35-tcs-rim/

I have run a baron with a 29X2.6 MM as a front wheel & Sentry with 29X2.6 HD front, my old frame struggled with space for Sentry on rear of my Smuggler. Would even look Sentry on front & Flow on rear. I had an Ibis 738 mullet on rear was a nice asymmetric wheel to build had 27.5X2.6 Rock Razor on rear in summer. They do a 938 ally wheel 34int 38ex.
Also Spank Ozzy 350 is nice wheel to build around 535g weight.

WTB assyms or the newer KOMs in whichever width or strength suits you. They do a light and a tough version.

I went with the stans flow in the end. My lbs did me a good deal on them and I figured they would be easier to sell on if I don’t get on with plus tyres. Thanks

Decent choice, but can I be the first pedant to observe that 2.6 isn’t really “plus”?

And I think you’ll love it. I’ve very fond of my 2.6 Mary.

I’m surprised it took that long. I’m starting with 2.6, might go bigger if the frame and fork can take it and if I like it. I’m a big scwhalbe fan but I can’t find anything bigger than 2.6. I guess I’m looking at a maxxis for bigger.

Schwalbe do 2.8in tyres, but consensus is that 35mm or 40mm rims work best for 2.8in – so 30mm-ish internal could be a bit pinched.

It must be the season of good will.
