  • 2.8" tyres on 30mm rim —- yeh or nay ?

I want to try a pair of 27.5 wheels on my Whyte S-150 however I am mildly obsessed by rotational weight and want to keep these as light as poss. I like American Classic kit but worry that the 30mm rims might be too narrow for true 2.8′ tyres.

Anyone got any first or second hand experience/knowledge, thanks Paul

I used them on my Solaris for a year without problems. Now running 35, can’t say I feel any difference.

I’ve been running 2.4″ tyres on 19mm internal width rims for years, so I can’t see why 2.8″ on 30mm would be a problem (even if it was the external width, which I guess would make it about 26mm internal?)

If you don’t have the wheels yet, I’d hold out for 35mm internal.
