I had some Halo Twin Rails that were good and meant I could get a little bit of grip on surfaces that weren't ideal.

nobody else ever seems to recommend them on such threads, but i always used specialized fatboys. cheap and they last for ages. super tough as well, very puncture-resistant.

Depends what you want from them. Fastest thing possible, Conti GPs. Something tough, Schwalbe Marathons. Something inbetween Schwalbe Marathon Slick (if they still make those – had Vredestein S-Lick before and they definitely don't still make those), or maybe Conti Supersport.

they still make the slick, in fact they make a bewildering range of marathon tyres!

Maybe it was the Marathon Racer – I thought they'd stopped doing the one we've got on the tandem anyway!

I used a set of Specialized Nimbus all last year – spot on they were, and they are cheap!

Conti Sport Contact 26 x 1.3 but they were a real bitch to fit – anyone else had this problem?

    i'd highly recommend travel contacts,
really good puncture protection and pretty fast for a touring tyre,

schwalbe marathons come in all different flavours,
so there will be a compound to suit you needs,

Schwalbe City Jets – can't remember whether it was Wiggle or CRC, but i got 2 of them with 2 tubes as well for about £20.

And they seem to work 🙂

Dickyboy – God yes, Conti Sport Contact are a pain to get on and even worse to get off. Good tyres though plus they last ages and I've never had a puncture with them.

Another vote for Specialized Fatboys – even the names great!

I use Spesh All Condition Pro tyres 26 x 1" with aramid protection on my MTB.

Not had any problems with punctures & they are v.fast.

I have a new bike ('Dale Bad Boy) coming with Schwalbe Kojak's – dunno if they will be any good though .. ?
