I’d love to replace the weighty wheels on my son’s 24″ Scott Scale, however with what?

JRA do not build them, are BMX rims any good?

They need to be rim brake not disk brake compatible. Not exactly sure of the spacing but I’ve seen pictures of people running standard hubs and cassettes on equivalent bikes so I assume 135?

FWIW I tried this and gave up and bought discs.

You can get brake rims – for wheelchairs iirc – for about £25 that weigh 450 g- but then you have to build the wheel.

Most 24 ” wheels are for DH or pretty burly IME. BMX ones weigh a ton as do the rims – Tarty bikes do some [ wheels or rims] but you then struggle to get [MTB] tyres for them

SS do some but not sure if brake compatabile but heavy @ 2 kg the set

Probably better to say get 24 ” rocket ron tyres or the like

they are standard spacing as one of my kids bike is the scott

Sun Envy rims are around 450gr, look for the ones with a machined sidewall to use rim brakes with.

    Thanks, good info Junkyard.

I’ll look into the wheelchair option.
