    Hi all
    new to this site need some advice I’ve got a mint 2003 Gary Fisher which is running a 3×9 gear setup I’m wanting to swap to a 1×11 and not sure what I’m going to need I’m looking at shimano XT M8000 groupset will I need to change my hubs and wheels? Or do I just get a new narrow wide chain ring and go 1×9 ?? I’m new to this whole thing so bare with me 🙂

    Nope, an M8000 groupset should just bolt straight on, assuming you are getting the whole groupset, inc BB etc. You’ll need the non boost cranks too, if there’s an option.

    If you do go 1×9, factor in a chain guide. As good as NW rings are, they work best with a clutch mech, which didn’t happen until 10speed.

    If you go one by though, from 3×9, you may as well go for the extra range of 1×11 over 1×9
