  • 1×10 11-42T cassette. What rear derailleur? Sram or Shimano?

    I know I’ve started my upgrades from the wrong end, but I was hoping that my short X9 2.1 would cope with the massive ring at the back. It doesn’t. Perhaps the fact that the B-screw is screwed doesn’t help at all.

    It’s going on CX bike with single chainring(36 or 38T) and I wondered if I need a Medium or Long Cage? I guess I have to go with mtb derailleur rather than Apex or Rival?

    I could also use Shimano 105 STI’s and 9sp mech but would I need a RAD cage?

    Thanks for all your help!

    I’ve used both a med cage SLX and med cage GX (10spd) with my sunrace 11-42, despite being a shimano fan the GX shifts far better on the same cassette. That’s with a 32t ring.

    SRAM GX medium cage is what you need… Got one here if you want it.

    Many thanks for your help lads!

    @Jointhedotz: I prefer Spam STI’s, with flat bars I’m a Shtmano fan as well. And the SunRace 11-42 is exactly what I’ve bought!

    So all I need is just to stretch the cage a wee bit and I’m done 😆

    @Mboy: mail on the way
