Considering Ronald McDonald is linked with the nutritional aspect of the Games I couldn’t give a **** about the rest of it.

    Olympics? They can shove ’em.

but hardly a surprise given the commercialism of the rest of the games.

They will shove ’em, right down our throats for the duration. They aired a trailer for the Man’s Red Fire relay last night…

    What would you rather?
Pay up front, know you’re paying and be able to make a decision. Or, have the cost built into the price of your bike/components whether you attend events or not. 😉

At least you’ll get to see something of the Olympics – 99% of the population won’t get near them.

You don’t have to watch it from Donkey green. Just go further along the boxhill road and it will be free, you still get to see it 8 times.

I wonder if there would be enough of a crowd to storm the paid area?

I’ll watch that section on the telly and then lean out of my lounge window to watch them as they go past after they’ve done Box Hill.

What they’ve failed to mention is that if you have to buy the tickets through the Olympic ticketing system there will be an additional charge of £6 simply for delivery.
(ignoring the fact you have to have a Visa card etc).

And it’s a certainty that many sheeple will put up with this corporate abuse.

Don’t see the problem personally. It’s private land, they’re entitled to charge for it. No-one is forcing you to pay to watch it there, other places are available. From all the bleating you’d think that Box Hill was the only place in the world to watch it from.

And do you want a well managed spot with good access and good views or do you just want some mad free for all? What’s that, you’d like option one? Well shut up and pay £15 then.

you didn’t attend the test event did you?

That’s why they have test events, to sort out the logistical issues… Now they’ve done that, they’ve worked out they can fit 15,000 people onto the hill and how to manage those numbers.

Cycling Weekly didn’t help with the test event stuff either, constant negative publicity and then refusing to hand out the allocation of wristbands that they’d been given “in protest”.

For me the test event problems were nothing to do with the management of the crowd. Sure, some people weren’t aware they had a bit of a walk from the train station but the biggest issue was the absolute lack of any info about the race.

You sit there for two hours and they tell you that they’re in this place or the other but what they needed was at the very least a big timing screen to show you who was doing what. The commentator was also pretty dire as 90% of her comments were about asking people not to fall down the hillside.

They need to charge to cover the costs of resurfacing Box Hill for the Olympics! WTF!! Ridiculous, Olympics going to be a huge disappointment I fear.

I can’t comment on the road cycling, but I’ve got tickets to the paralympic track finals that I’m really looking forward to.

Overall though, I think the Olympics is far too corporate when the focus should be on sports and sports participation. Charlie Brooker summed it up rather well when he mentioned that limescale remover has a London2012 logo on it due to the P&G association – article in the Guardian I think.

TV is always the preferred option on restricted roads, unless you get there the day before like on Alp d’huez… But £15 for box hill is a lot, certainly for the minimal amount of time you’ll see the riders, it’ll be good, but not good enough for me to fork out that.

I’ll go to the Mall and party there, with the rest of London.
