Its written on all OS Maps

"The representation on this map of any other road,track or path is no evidence of the existence of a right of way"

I would contact your local council, and they will consult a row officer who will look at your lane status on the "Definative and up to date List of streets"

We're lucky enough in Worcs to have the definitive map online.
Some other counties are as well IIRC.

I remember something about a white road being a ROW if it connected two classified roads. Maybe.

In the O.S. mapping classification sheme / spec. "White Roads" = Unclassified Roads ... i.e not considered as Public Highway at the time of original suvery (BITD). Specifically O.S: Surveyors were tasked not to map or inquire into the status of Public Rights of Way (an ever evolving idea). So in short yes? ... but maybe get a flak jacket! :wink:

This is a confusing area which is only able to be clarified by the definitive maps which you will normally find in the highways department in your local council offices. I don't think there is anywhere on the net which publishes these, sorry.

white roads according to the map legend are other roads tracks or paths and not necessarily rights of way.Look on the 1:50 000 legend as all the rights of way are marked by the red lines(but you probably know that already)

Are white roads on OS maps neccesarily BOATs or not? There's one on a map that would be useful for avoiding busy roads, half of it marked as a bridleway, and half not.

I've no interest in chancing it as I know of the landowner, and he really didn't ought to have a firearms certificate.
