Just been checking over my steed (see other post) and was surprised to find the pivot bearings on my 2006/7 Superlight are shot already, just one year of riding! They are the same as the new model Heckler. Anyone else had to repace them so soon?

Tom

PS Not a complaint, merely an observation!
PPS It may have some bearing (no pun intended)on the front mech problem mentioned in my earlier post!

Heckler well over one year old. Out each week in all conditions. Serviced the swing arm a few weeks ago. Bearing still had loads of grease in place. Just topped them up and put back together. One point to note is the bike is never washed.

Heckler just 10 months old, washed and cleaned after each ride. Out in all conditions all over the place. Just gone in to have the main pivot looked at and probably replaced, had to have the shock bush replaced about 7 weeks ago too.
Not overly happy 😮

I've an 06 Heckler, 18 months of riding in all conditions, washed whenever particulaly dirty (quite often around here). Overhauled the frame a few weeks back, found some corrosion on the outer races but the bearings themselves were only a little bit gritty. Full cleanout and regrease and everything was ready to rock again.

I have just sold my eight year old heckler and it is still on original bearings. Still running smooth as. It was used summer and winter in Lancashire at least once a week.

Carlos, the bearing life is actually the same as my old Superlight, I thought it was going to be longer too. Great bike though.

Also I meant to say that my Bullit's bearing just went and found them a lot cheaper from bearing suppliers rather than santa cruz. I wonder if they will be of similar quality though!

Mine's still fine after 18 months, though I've had to replace the shock bush a couple of times.

Even if they're only lasting a year, that's not too bad - the bearings on my stumpjumper lasted only a couple of months a time and shock bushes lasted a couple of rides at most.

Incidentally the bearings for the new Superlight and the Heckler are the same size as Hope replacements 6902 2RS, much cheaper than SC.
