long dash is bridleway, short dash is footway. Zoom in further the pink/purple lines will turn green. Long dash orange (on 1:25000) is permissible bridleway so thats ok to ride as well.

Should be fairly clear from that which is bridleway (therefore bike friendly) and which is footpath (therefore not, strictly).

Have you tried the maps in Wales and N Ireland Joe?
Unless Wales has annexed Cumbria or N Ireland has an enclave near Penrith I'm failing to see why those would be relevant.

Oh yeah - if you want confirmation of what's a good trail, cross-reference the map with Strava global heatmap.
