I've a Chris King crown race that I can remove by hand, this ain't right? Can a crown race be worn out or stretched? Should I replace or does it really matter? All tips appreciated.
Martin
It should be fine - some crown races have a split in them so that they can be removed by hand - eg Hope.
The main thing is that the bearings seat correctly and you can't feel any play in the fork. Even if you do it's more likely to be ronnied bearings than a ronnied crown race.
the burning question is surely does a headset come with a crown race?
there ought to be a thread about it.

Every headset I've ever bought has.

Oh, if only! Can't imagine that'd be too long a thread either.

You should contribute to the debate - it's been going 2 years and I can't see a firm conclusion being reached in the near future;

its looks like the right one for sure, seems as if it has been put on and off a number of times it will loosen and cause a bit of movement/play even 1mm can make a difference mr king says!.... they are cheap enough (unklike a full new king headset) so I'll give it a go, there's a little play enough to make a creak/click noise which is a tad annoying - some would call it personality! hahaha

Oh... my... God... 😮
it's worth a read if you've missed the story so far.
