the curve of the mech may mean that it has to be a touch high. I like mine with the absolute minimum space between mech and big ring e.g. a couple of mil max. Even my nasty QS Veloce shifters will run almost anything and the older stuff, e.g. my Record 8 speeds have never failed and I run all sorts of weird and wonderful junk. Even my old Campag matchbox front mech works.<br />
Of course you may have the one front mech that doesn't work. If in doubt something older is easier to set up.<br />
I also use normal double mechs on my triple Campag set ups. 1 has used a modern Centaur one and the other an early 70's Super Record.

I used to run an old LX (1997ish)front mech with Veloce 9sp shifters (2007ish)- what sort of triple? Mine had on olde worlde mtb chainset with 46-34-24 and worked a treat.

There is a lot of trim in the gear levers so I was hoping I might get away with it.
