Think eMTB and you think of the extra assist the bike offers on the ups, but Focus wants you to think of the latest Focus Sam² as a bike designed for down.
Sporting 170mm of travel front and rear, the Sam² does sit at the burly end of Enduro and easily crosses over into Freeride / Bikepark territory where bikes are generally asked to hit massive gaps and huge drops all day long.
Keeping the front end of the new Focus Sam² from folding is either a 2021 Fox 38 or Rockshox Zeb fork up front, and to keep the geometry police at bay the frame has been completely revamped. In addition to the frame geo updates, the Sam² now runs on a pair of 29in wheels for even faster rough trail riding.
When not powering downhill, the Focus Sam² is powering uphill. The bike now runs a Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 motor, with a 625Wh PowerTube battery neatly placed inside the downtube.
2021 Focus Sam² Frame
The updates to the Sam² start at the very front of the bike with a 1.5in steerer tube. This gives Focus room to run wires and cables neatly through their new Cockpit Integration Solution. The C.I.S is made up of a new stem design, custom spacers and Acros new headset system to allow wire, cables and hoses to be routed inside. Not only is this a clean system, but it also helps to keep those vital parts safe.
The updates continue with a new geometry which sees reach numbers range from 430mm to 510mm, a 65-degree head angle and 76-degree seat tube.
As mentioned above, the new Sam² runs on a pair of 29in wheels, but for riders who enjoy the feel of a mullet setup, Focus has included a flip-chip on the rear axle so you can switch between wheel sizes. You can even run + size 27.5in tyres front and rear if you prefer too, as each Sam² runs a plus compatible fork as standard.
