Early Morning Lessons

Well that was pleasant. Last week’s bikepacking trip, that is. It turns out that heading to the hills with all you need to ride and sleep is rather relaxing. A total break from having to be anywhere by any particular time. You can read all about it in Singletrack Issue 161, which will be out in June. Thanks to Ortlieb for providing the bags and the impetus to try something new and get out there. I hope you all managed to get out there and enjoy the long weekend.

Lots of people tell me they like reading this Weekly Word. If you’ve not tried reading ‘Singletrack World, The Magazine’, then I suspect you’d like it too. It has more words in it than the Weekly Word, and more of them are about bikes. But quite a lot of them are still about life, the places that bikes take you, and people you meet along the way.

It’s a fair old wait until June for Issue 161, but Issue 160, April’s edition, is out now. What’s more, if you sign up today for a print subscription, we’ll send you Issue 160 now. No waiting! And then, we’ll send you Issue 161 in June. And if you like what you read and stay signed up, we’ll keep sending you them, every other month - six issues a year. Dipping your toe in the water will cost you just £8.99 for those first two issues, and you can cancel after that if you decide it’s not for you. But if you like the Weekly Word, and you like bikes, and nice photos, and interesting people, and words written by people full of enthusiasm for their subject, I think you’ll be happy.

Regular readers will be waiting for the life lesson in this week’s Word. It’s a brief one: get dressed before attempting any ‘woke up like this’ aerial bivvy shots. Otherwise, when you get your flying camera stuck in a tree, you will be forced to give it an eyeful of bum, or wait for it to run out of battery and fall back down on your head. Early mornings are too early to be facing such choices.

This weekend I’m going to Bespoked, the Handmade Bike Show, in Manchester. Look out for me wandering around the swimming pool display halls, and do stop me for a chat.

Apparently this was a four day week. Could have fooled us; it's felt much longer than that.
