Giant and Liv Go Direct To Consumer In UK

by 0

Following in the footsteps of Specialized, Giant and sister brand Liv have just announced that they will be offering customers a free home delivery option, as well as a click and collect from your local bike shop. Giant has long had branded or flagship stores, so it will be interesting to see what happens to them in the longer term – will they continue alongside the home delivery model, or will this be the start of a shift in the model?

Here’s the press release:

Giant and Liv UK launch free Delivery service direct-to-consumer. Customers can now order bikes from the brands’ websites for home Delivery.

The new free service puts customer choice first; All orders will connect consumers with their local retailer for service and support, plus the Giant Rider Support team will be on hand to assist.

Ian Beasant, Managing Director of Giant UK, commented, “we’re delighted to be able to work with our network of talented independent retailers, offering consumers the advantages of a Delivery service.”

Distributed in a dual-branded Giant and Liv bike box, with instructions that take you through a simple step-by-step guide to help unbox the bike, set up the bars, fit pedals, and set saddle height, followed by some pre-ride safety tips.

Beasant continued, “the Delivery service is an additional tool to support our dedicated network of retailers and offers consumers the modern shopping experience they expect.”

Convenience is at the heart of the new service, giving consumers the choice and flexibility to suit their shopping needs. Delivery will sit alongside the existing Click & Collect service to meet the demands of today’s consumers.

Clarification (UPDATE 14:30 20th January)

In response to questions posted in the comments we’ve sought some clarification from Giant about the delivery procedure. If you choose the direct delivery option rather than click and collect, this does not cut out your local Giant dealer from the service/process. Rather the bike will be delivered to you AFTER it has been assembled and checked (PDI process) by your local dealer, as is required by law. ie. Online orders received via the Giant website are processed centrally and the customer’s bike is sent to your local Giant dealer who then performs the necessary assembly. The bike is then sent on to the customer. What you will receive will be a part assembled bike that requires only minor final assemble by the customer using basic tools. In much the same way that bikes arrive direct to customers from other brands like Canyon.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
