The different World Series race formats explained
DHI – Downhill
Simple. The fastest rider to the bottom against the clock wins. Practice day, followed by qualifying day, followed by race day.
XCO – Cross Country Olympic
A mass start, racing around a set number of laps, until the finish line is crossed. The start grid order is determined by racers’ performance in the preceding XCC race (see below).
XCC – Cross Country Short Track
Takes place the day before the XCO. Reduced length laps over a reduced overall distance.
XCM – Cross Country Marathon
In a word: grueling. 100km courses, usually of one huge lap of big terrain.
EDR – Enduro
Cumulative time trial on generally descending stages. Multiple timed stages across a day (or two) with time limits in place to reach the next timed stage.
