Take The Singletrack World Mega Survey!

by 9

We’d love to know a bit more about your purchasing intentions and interests for the year ahead, so we can plan stories that will interest you. These answers will also be helpful to us when talking to advertisers – which helps us keep producing great work, and also helps the adverts you see be more relevant to you.

It’s quite an extensive survey – probably a little quicker to answer if you have few buying intentions for next year. Even if you don’t plan to spend any money on bikes at all, it would still be useful to us to know that! As a small incentive to take part (other than idle curiosity, boredom, or twitchy thumbs) you’ll get a voucher code for our shop when you complete it.

Thanks for being here and reading our words. You can help us keep writing words and bringing you stories by taking our survey. You can also:

Managing Editor

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

The survey is called “The Singletrack Mega Survey 2022” but question one is “Do you intend to buy a bike this year?”

Are you surveying buying intentions for the next 6 days then?

    How about ‘this coming year’?

Is this for advertising or magazine features.

If it’s for features then it’s worth saying (since there wasn’t a ‘Any other comments’ section) that I’m less and less interested in reading about new bikes unless there is something genuinely new and innovative about them.

I’m also interested in people who are building their own frames or other parts and who are coming up with solutions that don’t look like a trek.

If it’s more for advertising then I’m a terrible person to listen to and my opinion is probably best ignored since I’m very much a ‘Sort by discount first’ consumer and my purchasing decisions are less about buying what’s best for me but rather buying what’s best value for money and then figuring out how to make it work (which ironically probably results in more money being spent). So yeah, try building an advertising budget around that 🙂

Like Bruce Wee it’s all about the discount for me as well.

@BruceWee it’s a bit of both. There’s a more mag specific survey here  for feedback on features.

So… if you are not thinking of buying a bike then the other questions are null and void? Of would you like us to dream?

does that not tell manufacturers something? That folk will buy their kit, as long as they believe they are getting a discount, thus inflating RRP, to still make when they ‘discount’ them?

I think most of us who have been buying bikes and bike parts for a while understand when something is an actual discount and how it is that these huge discounts are possible (in theory it should be impossible for consumers to buy at below the price the shops buy stuff for but we all know it’s entirely possible).

Manufacturers could try going the DFS marketing route but I suspect that would be fairly transparent.

But yeah, I don’t really feel like going another 15 rounds on OEM prices vs aftermarket prices-

    But how will you know?

I’m kind of in the same boat.
Apart from a personal preference on wheel size, my bike is only lacking a storage box, and headset cable routing.
One of those I would be happy with, the other not.
Neither makes me want to buy a new bike.

But I only know these things, because I (because I’m a bit of a nerd) follow the new releases etc.
