Generations – An Excuse For A New Bike?

by 3

You needed an excuse to buy a dirt jump bike, didn’t you? Well, Kona is doing its best to give you one with this sentimental video:

As we get older, our priorities change, time becomes fleeting, and we learn to take less for granted. Ambassador Tim DaCosta is learning to embrace and appreciate every minute he gets to spend with his family. Bikes have become a critical part of their daily life. With the continued popularity of pumptracks and dirt jumps, they’re becoming more accessible to riders of all ages and are proving to transcend generations and strengthen family bonds.

You might also want to teach your kid some basic first aid skills so they can patch you up when ambition exceeds skill!

It’s not a midlife crisis, I’m parenting.
Comes with free steri-strips and saline wash.

Whether you buy that new bike, head on out with your old hardtail, or find something new-to-you (possibly discarded by someone who has tired of scabs?), you might first need somewhere like this spot in the video to go and ride with your kid. Perhaps you’re lucky enough to have somewhere on your doorstep. Or maybe you’ll be that person that gets a new pump track built locally? Check out our feature on how to make sure you get something great built in your local park.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

Look at that spot man. Is there anything like that within a thousand miles of Yorkshire that isn’t soaking right now?

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while. My kids are on their first pedal bikes and if I want to ride with them around the local woods then anything faster than a 26” single speed will roll way too fast. And a cheap jump/pump bike is way more fun than an old XC bike from the 90s

It’s 1,071miles from York to Nice and the 10 day forecast is all sun.

I really, really need a road trip
