Pivot Cycles Launches New Mach 4 SL

Brand new from Pivot Cycles is the all-new Mach 4 SL

Standing in the Pivot mountain bike lineup as the flagship full suspension XC race bike, the Mach 4 SL replaces two existing models; the Mach 4 Carbon and the Mach 429 SL.

The Mach 4 SL features an all-new carbon fibre frameset, 100mm of rear travel and a dw-link suspension design. Instead of mounting the shock underneath the top tube though (as with previous models), the shock has been flipped into a vertical orientation and now mounts down at the bottom bracket junction.

XS Through To XL

Aside from providing weight and stiffness benefits, the more compact suspension package allows each frame to fit a large-size water bottle inside the mainframe, while also delivering greater standover clearance. In fact, the XS size actually has more standover clearance than the Mach 4 Carbon. For this reason, the Mach 4 SL is rolling on 29in wheels only.

By using slimmer and straighter tube profiles, and reducing the amount of alloy components bonded into the carbon frame, Pivot has been able to shave over 300g off the previous Mach 429 SL. With an XS frame weighing in at 2105g (including shock), that makes this the lightest full suspension frame that Pivot Cycles has ever produced.

Build Options

Just like the Mach 429 SL, the new Mach 4 SL will also accommodate 100-120mm travel forks. The World Cup build kits will come with a 100mm travel Fox 32 Step-Cast fork, a rigid seatpost and fast-rolling Maxxis Aspen tyres. The Team, Pro and Race builds will come with the longer 120mm travel Fox 34 Step-Cast fork, a dropper seatpost and slightly knobblier Maxxis Ardent Race tyres.

Every spec level can be had with a standard cable-activated Fox suspension package, or with Fox Live Valve. If you’d like the automated electronic control, that optional upgrade will set you back an additional £1,950 / $3,000 AUD.

You can also get a carbon fibre wheel upgrade in the form of DT Swiss XRC 1200 hoops that feature 240 hubs, a 36pt Star Ratchet freehub, and a 25mm internal rim width. Some of the higher spec levels come with these wheels as stock, but you can also get them on the cheaper models for an upgrade of £1,350 / $2,000 AUD.
