Okay, okay, we’ll hold our hands up: this isn’t really a mountain biking story. And it’s a bit regional, being about That London. But essentially, a chap/chapess called TR MacGowran wants to build a Bicycle Barge, which would travel up and down the Grand Union Canal in London, repairing and servicing bikes.
On a barge! What’s not to love? It’s mobile, there’s some very cool thinking behind it, it’ll potentially boost cycling, and it’s wacky enough that people outside of cycling might take notice, and you know what? It might just work…
If you live in London, and you think this might be up your street, you can visit the Crowdfunder page here.

Imagine the scene… You’re riding along the canal path and suddenly your chain breaks on your fixie. Disaster! It’s almost half a mile to Camden! Then suddenly, from out of nowhere- BICYCLE REPAIR BARGE! Thank goodness you’ve come!
It needs a rapid reaction cargo-fixie bike to get to tools and spares out to such disasters as above. Job done then.
this smells more hipsterish than a pop-up coffee stall in a 1940’s Citroen van. With a beard.
I’m sure there was an article in a magazine a few years back about a cycle workshop on a narrow boat.
I can’t remember where in the country it was though.
It’s still a great idea though.
Cracking idea…
