“Follow Me” Bike Film Tour of UK and Ireland

by Ben Haworth 5

follow meThe Glasgow International Bike Film Festival have announced additional dates for the forthcoming UK and Ireland cinema tour of the new film from the team behind The Collective, Roam and Seasons. Following on from the sell out success of Seasons in 2008, this year’s tour will be supported by www.Redbull.co.uk giving access to more venues than ever before, including Ireland for the very first time.

The tour relies on the generosity and support of independent bike shops and people within the bike industry to make the screenings happen. As such, www.cyclesurgery.com and www.biketreks.net will be hosting charity raffles for some cracking bike schwag (courtesy of Madison amongst others) at the London and Ambleside screenings while there may also be a special appearance by Red Bull sponsored athletes at some of the shows. At the Bath screening, a big after screening party is planned courtesy of www.jonashelford.com who has previously brought sell out mountain bike film screenings to The Little Theatre Cinema.

Additional dates have been confirmed for Tavistock (supported by www.silverfish-uk.com) , Bath, Bristol, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Richmond. It is hoped that more dates will follow as other venues come on board the tour. The organisers are keen to hear from riders wanting the film brought to their area and can be contacted at Sanny@singletrackworld.com

The Film

Featuring British rider and 2008 UCI DH World Champion Gee Atherton amongst a host of familiar faces, Follow Me is a modern portrait of mountain bike lifestyle, getting back to basics and reminding us why we all love to ride bikes. Breaking from the traditional single rider format, Follow Me is based on the idea that “no one rides alone”; mixing and matching the world’s best downhillers, freeriders and slopestylers in some of the best places to ride on the planet.

Think back‐yard sessions, ripping local trails, training bike parks, epic road trips and heli drops. Follow Me is all about good times, pushing limits with your friends, crazy adventures and most importantly having fun your bike.

Follow Me will change the way you see mountain bike films and get you stoked to get off the couch and ride!

Riders: Gee Atherton, Sam Hill, Darren Berrecloth, Ben Boyko, Brendan Fairclough, Geoff Gulevich, Matt Hunter, Cam McCaul, Brandon Semenuk, Steve Smith, Kurt Sorge,Thomas Vanderham

The Tour

The tour kicks off with the European Cinema premiere at the Glasgow Film Theatre (www.gft.org.uk) on Tuesday 27th April 2010. This will be the first opportunity to see the film anywhere in Europe and will be shown as a double bill feature with Seasons. Tickets are quickly approaching sold out but can still be bought on line or from the Box Office.  After that, the tour will take in the whole of the UK and Ireland with screenings of Follow Me being shown with either The Collective or Seasons depending on the venue.

  1. The Dales date is the 18th of July and not the 17th above.

The tickets for tonight’s premiere are almost entirely sold out with only a handful left if you are really quick and call the box office on 0141 332 6535.

Red Bull will be there in force with some cracking promos tonight.

I’m hoping to confirm another 3 venues this week.

Any other questions, feel free to e mail me directly (address above)

  2. As predicted, last night was a complete sell out with many folk being turned away. It was the first time I had watched Follow Me in full and it more than lived up to expectations. Great to see such a large turnout for the event and many thanks to Red Bull and Bike Love for their support on the night.

Next screening is at the Dyfi Enduro this weekend followed by Sheffield on the 13th where we will be screening Follow Me and The Collective as a double bill feature.

  3. Thought the Flim Last night was great and the whole double bill thing worked really well, not to mention as much free red bull as you could drink!!

My only comment is that this being my first visit to the GFT I was a bit disapointed by the screen size, picture quality and sound quality, maybe for the other films that were mentioned last night cineworld or somehwere would offer a better viewing expierence??

  4. Really enjoyed it. The New Zealand section was brilliant. As a GFT semi-regular I can say the sound in particular was slightly ropey but that’s not reflective of the GFT system. I hope The Collective move to widescreen for their next production.

  5. Cheers guys!

The projector in the GFT is a high quality digital projector. The source is DVD. Moving to cineworld won’t make any difference to the image or film size on the screen. However, for all the other screenings, I’ll be asking the cinema to use Blu Ray players as this will upscale the quality and address the sound issue. Personally, I think the volume was slightly too high (mind you I was sitting right at the front!) Perhaps it’s just me getting old!

I’d love for the guys to film in a 2.35: 1 widescreen ratio but they don’t so we’re left with the smaller ratio for the screening. On the big screen, you really get a feel for just how big some of the riding has become. The Matt Hunter sequence where he jumped onto that cliff was mental!
