GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales ’09
The 7 day MTB stage challenge 15th – 22nd August 2009

GORE BIKE WEAR™ a committed partner on the TransUK events, the MTB Marathon Series and the GORE BIKE WEAR™ Road Sportive Series has ‘swapped’ the category sponsorship of the last two years and has moved up to be the become the new title sponsor for the TransUK events for the next three years.

From the early days of TransUK GORE BIKE WEAR™ has supported this concept and strongly believes it has an important and very valid role to play in pushing the sport of mountain biking forward within the UK.

‘The Trans Wales 2009 offers a fun endurance experience for people who want to be pushed to their limit.’ says Jonathan Bell from GORE BIKE WEAR™. He continues ‘The TransWales takes people out into some inspiring and challenging countryside and also takes them mentally and physically out of their comfort zone! This event offers us a unique opportunity to be involved in a seven day mountain bike event, during which we will be offering participants the opportunity to test out our product for free without obligation.’

The concept:
The TransUK event is staying in Wales in 2009 for the 3rd ‘issue’ of the TransWales – 7 day long Mountain Bike stage challenge. The event is a mixture of linking stages (un-timed) and special stages (timed) and can be tackled in either pairs or as solo riders. Not just endurance but also tactics, the right equipment and an ability to pace yourself will be key to enjoying as well as to winning this event. For further details on the concept and for further details please go to the event website: http://www.mtbtransuk.co.uk

News for 2009 – Online entry:
For the 2009 event we have an online entry service which is live now. Simply go to our entry page of the GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales ’09 website (http://www.mtbtransuk.co.uk/wales/entry.php) and either use the downloadable entry form or our new online entry facilities. The online entry facilities will make payment from abroad a doddle as well as allows participants to pay the event via credit or debit cards. For riders who have already paid their deposit by cheque there is still the option to pay the remaining entry fee through the online facilities. The entry is open now.

Please don’t forget that the entry is strictly limited to 300 riders and that entries will be handled on a first come first served basis.

News for 2009 – Event facilities:
After a challenging event for everybody involved it was highlighted that the facilities need to be focused on. So for 2009 (and beyond) we have invested almost £ 40,000 in mobile facilities so that even in similar challenging weather conditions a certain amount of comfort can be guaranteed.

New for 2009 – ‘With-in’ special stages:
From next year onwards we will run the majority of the special stages as ‘within’ stages and not necessarily at designated trail centres. That will give the event more flexibility when it comes to the start and finish/camping locations and also takes the pressure away from the riders in case the weather is not on our side. The night special stage will still be run at a trail centre.

To give the riders who have not had the chance to join us at one of the previous TransUK events or for the ones who would like to refresh their memory we have put a little picture gallery together on our site. Check out: http://www.mtbtransuk.co.uk/wales/gallery.php

Will Pete Poddy be enterying again? Wouldnt be the same without him :0p

The starting of the special stages is a good idea to allow better camping grounds, but how are the start times going to be arranged.

If you have to queue up, potentially cold and wet mid ride to wait for your “slot” that could be hell!

Hope the Brechfa stages wont be destroyed for 6 months like last year, The Trails have only just been reopened.
